In the previous article, we covered how to pony your horse at the walk. This article will cover ponying at the trot. All the preparations for ponying that were discussed in the previous article still apply.
Use the voice command "trot" as you apply seat and leg aids to ask the lead horse for the transition. Move your right hand forward to signal the pony horse to do the same. Keep your arm and elbow flexible so you can react quickly and smoothly if the pony horse lags behind or speeds up. This also will keep you from being pulled out of position in the saddle or jerking on the longe line.

Finding Your Dream Horse

We know it's possible, even if we have spent weeks, months, or years looking for our very own Dream Horse. We all know people in our barns, dressage clubs, or that we've seen at shows who own Dream Horses, so they do exist, right? Why, then is it so hard to locate and buy our very own Dream Horse?
For starters, it's helpful to remember that our dream-horse requirements often change over time and are highly individualized. A horse in my youth was a Dream Horse at the time but he would not suit me now. As a twenty-something, broke, working student aspiring to turn my passion into a living, any ride that I lived through and learned from was a good ride. Now that I hold all three USDF medals and am approaching midlife my needs are not the same.
