Developing the Young Horse
"Working At Liberty, Phase 2"
PALM PARTNERSHIP TRAINING™ By Lynn Palm
Liberty work demonstrates how important the handler's position is to the horse's movement. If the handler and whip are positioned more toward the back to the horse, it will encourage him to move forward. When the handler and whip are positioned more at the middle of the horse, it will encourage him to maintain his speed. If the handler moves her body and whip more toward the front of the horse, it will slow him down. If the handler is positioned too far in front of the horse, she will block his forward movement and cause him to stop or change directions. If the horse is not responding correctly, always check your position first. (MORE)

Practice Makes Perfect.
Five Weeks to Flawless Freestyle,Part V by Beth Hall
It's the week of your first freestyle competition and you're ready to dress-rehearse your musical program in its entirety. Dress-rehearsal doesn't mean wearing your show clothes to the barn, but running through your freestyle from beginning to end. If you've put my five-week system fully into practice, joining all the segments of your program should be a breeze. During this final practice week, set aside 15 minutes of your daily ride for freestyle practice. Week 6: Dress-Rehearse for Success You won't be allowed to halt and re-group at a competition, so now's the time to learn to keep going, no matter what. If your horse spooks, if he ignores your aids, if he's a little tense or lazy, deal with the problem quickly. When you can accomplish this goal in every freestyle practice, finding your place with the music will feel like second nature, even under competition pressure.
