December 2009

Greetings and welcome to the Gavin Menzies research team newsletter for December 2009!

There are a lot of links to click on this week, so please feel to enjoy these at your leisure!

As ever, it has been a very busy few months since we were last in touch. Gavin and Marcella went on another eventful world tour, visiting India, China, the USA and Canada. As well as delivering several talks at schools and institutions around the world they were busy collecting evidence and photographs and making contacts for the furthering of our latest research project. All will be revealed in due course...

Meanwhile, Ian Hudson has just returned from giving one of the keynote speeches at the Trimble Dimensions Conference in Beijing.

Fernando de Trazegnies Granda
Ian has recently been in touch with Fernando Trazegnies Granda, ex Foreign Minster of Peru, who is in agreement with the theory of a Chinese pre-Columbian presence in Peru. He has written an illustrated paper on the subject and has given us permission to publish on our website. To read his paper please click here.

Professor John Lienhard

In a similar vein is this piece by Professor John Lienhard. John is Professor Emeritus of Mechanical Engineering and History at the University of Houston. This piece touches on Hoei-Shin's journey to Fusang in AD499

John Ruskamp
John has sent us another paper on his research into Chinese ideograms in ancient American rock art. John believes the image discussed in this paper is irrefutable proof that there was Chinese influence, not much later than AD 400, in the South-western States. To view the paper please click here.

We are also pleased to announce that Bobsin Wang's translation of Prof. Han Zheng Hua's paper, "Nanhai, a Chinese territory boundary as surveyed by the "Four Seas Sunshadow-lengths Survey" of the Yuan dynasty period" is now up here.

Emeritus Professor John Sorenson
We are proud to help propagate the excellent research of Emeritus Professor John L. Sorenson in "A Complex of Ritual and Ideology Shared by Mesoamerica and the Ancient Near East" (Sino-Platonic Papers No.195, Dept. of East Asian Languages and Civilizations, Univ. of Pennsylvania). This is available as a PDF at the link below. How anyone can think that Columbus was the first to discover the Americas in 1492 after reading this is beyond us! http://sino-platonic.org/complete/spp195_mesoamerica.pdf

China Daily
Mike Peters wrote a piece about our research for the "China Daily" on Columbus Day which can be viewed here.

Charlotte Harris Rees
Charlotte has finished another successful speaking tour and is back home in the USA. You can catch up on her news at www.harrismaps.com and in the press at the following links:

The Ancient Map Code
We are very pleased to announce the publication of Liu Gang's new book, The Ancient Map Code. The book is well written and tirelessly researched. In it Liu Gang describes a world map of 1093 AD which is a precursor to his 1418 / 1763 world map. To visit a section of our site dedicated to Liu Gang's potentially earth-shattering new map please click here. We would love to know what our critics make of this!

1421 television documentary
For those of you in France we are pleased to announce that the 1421 documentary will be aired on Planète on the 12th of January 2010.

1421 travel tour
Finally, we have been working on a new idea for a 1421-related educational travel tour with Gordon Marsh, who has extensive experience in the luxury educational travel industry around the world, most specifically in China. Gordon, who is fluent in Chinese, has helped us put together a unique and wonderful trip, highlighting the life and times of Admiral Zheng He and his voyages of discovery, which also takes in many of the sights of Beijing, Kunming, Nanjing, Shanghai and Hong Kong. Travellers will experience the illustrious history of China's past and present, accompanied by professional expert guides, with lectures from Gavin and members of the 1421 team from around the world. This is a truly remarkable opportunity to visit Admiral Zheng He's birthplace, the place where his fleets set sail and to meet Gavin. This trip offers incredible value for money, but space is limited. If you would like more information on this trip please email Gordon directly at: gmarsh6004@aol.com

If you have enjoyed this newsletter please feel free to spread the word and pass it on to friends and family.
The office will be closed until 4th January 2010 but we much look forward to reading your emails on our return!

Wishing you all a happy Christmas and a healthy and prosperous 2010 wherever you are in the world!

Best wishes,
Gavin Menzies' research team
