| The Beagle Campaign |
We are pleased to pledge our support for the Beagle Campaign. Some of you will have read of the impending Special General Meeting, on Monday May 18th, at The Royal Geographical Society, London, to vote if the Society should reactivate its own expeditions, more commonly know today as field research projects, as was envisioned in its founding charter. The Beagle Campaign believes that the RGS should be at the forefront of scientific discovery and feel the Society is in the ideal position to bring the geographical sciences together, in an age when scientific discovery is more important than ever before. The campaign is supported by many distinguished explorers, scientists, environmentalists, conservationists, writers, researchers and geographers and, if you are a Fellow, they need your vote. | The Princess Tai Ping |
We were sad to hear of the sinking of the Princess Tai Ping on Sunday 26th April. The Princess Tai Ping was a 54 ft. long replica Ming junk which had set out from Taiwan last year, and sailed across the Pacific to the U.S.A. using only the power of the wind, (as was the custom back in the 15th century!) The boat was hit by a freighter some 30 miles off the coast of Taiwan on her return leg, just 3 days ago, and was sunk. Despite the sad outcome, this voyage proves that trans-Pacific travel was a possibility so many years ago. The voyage as a whole was a triumph and the crew proved their point dramatically. Most importantly, no lives were lost.

| The '1434' Paperback |
| Finally, we are pleased to announce the publication of the '1434' UK paperback.
A note from Gavin: "... The UK paperback version of '1434' was published on 30th April. This edition carries 30 pages of new evidence from the thousands of people who have emailed after the hardback was published. This new evidence is controversial and important, so even if you have read the hardback, there is more to be found in the paperback. My gratitude for all the research carried out by friends of '1434' - research which is our lifeblood..." To purchase the paperback from amazon please click here
