Viktor Frankl, MD: "Man in Search for Meaning"
FRIDAY, February 12, 2010 @ 7:30 FREE
(approx. 2 hours. Includes a short discussion period.)
When I was about 23 years old and in med school in Vienna, Austria, I had the great fortune to attend a yearly Spring-lecture series by psychiatrist Professor Dr.Viktor Frankl.
Every week, I used to go to the Vienna Poliklink to hear his lectures. At that time, I had no idea who this guy actually was! Gradually, I understood that he was an Austrian-American survivor of the Holocaust, the founder of Logotherapy, a major representative of existentialist therapy, and the inventor of the "paradox intention", ... it all did not mean much to me (yet),.... especially the idea that one could find meaning in one's suffering and adversity! However, what Professor Frankl taught in these lectures about the power and greatness of the human spirit somehow held a certain fascination and magnetism for me. It is still with me today!
