Park Podcasts Put Roving Rangers In Your Pocket

Two new online video series help visitors learn more about Yellowstone National Park. These videos are designed to bring Yellowstone’s world renowned geysers, hot springs, wildlife, and scenery to people worldwide through the park's official web site and via iTunes downloads, better known as "podcasts." Park visitors can play these videos on their iPods as they tour the park, creating a uniquely customizable electronic tour guide that can be geared to the interest level and itinerary of each user. The premiere includes 30 videos that span a range of topics. Many more are on the way. Both the park web site and iTunes podcast pages will be updated on a regular basis. Links to additional information will be provided for those who want to explore a topic in greater depth.

The video series Inside Yellowstone features electronic "roving rangers" who provide fast facts about Yellowstone’s world famous attractions, just as actual visitors to the park encounter rangers throughout their travels. Visitors who bring the videos into the park on their iPods can use them as a completely customized electronic guide. The park’s official web site contains a map with numbered labels that match the numbers of the videos on the iPod, making it easy to select the video that matches the corresponding park feature or location. These videos were produced by the staff at Yellowstone National Park with support provided by a generous grant from the Yellowstone Association.

Expanded Yellowstone Ed-Ventures

Yellowstone Ed-Ventures will now cover more areas of the park. In addition to focusing on the diverse and abundant wildlife of Yellowstone's Northern Range, they will now also focus on the natural history and geology in the Canyon and Lake Yellowstone areas, and the thermal features in the Old Faithful area. An Institute naturalist guide will show you where, when and how to look for animals using high-powered spotting scopes and binoculars. Hiking trips enable you to explore backcountry trails with an experienced guide. Ed-Ventures appeal especially to families and other small groups that want an introduction to Yellowstone wildlife, geology or hiking. Programs are offered at different locations through out the park and are a great way to make your trip more memorable.

These eight-hour days included instruction, professional spotting scopes, binoculars and in-park transportation. You bring your own meals; the Institute provides snacks. Daily rates, effective through October 31, 2007, are $495 for 1 to 5 participants, $625 for 6 to 14 participants and $1,250 for 15 to 28 participants.
