Greetings!
BannerIf you've never been to a mud sale, grab your boots and head to Lancaster County.  Named for the condition of the thawing ground, these auctions are held outside and raise money for local fire companies.  It's a great way to buy everything from quilts to horses and support a good cause.  The food is Pennsyvania Dutch, the company is both local English and Amish, and the atmosphere is like none anywhere else.  See our things to do page for a complete listing - starting late February and through March.

We've added a restaurant page to our website.  We hope it introduces you to some new places to try - we'll keep adding restaurants so check it often!

Local nurseries are open!  Driving in the evening you can see the lights on in the greenhouses while they nurture their seedlings. Be sure to ask Jan for her list of favorite local greenhouses - there are at least 7 within five miles.

We were recently featured as the extreme escape in an article in Kid's Magazine.

Lastly, we are pleased to announce that Jan was selected as a semi-finalist in the Pancakes with Personality Contest.   More than 100 recipes were submitted by innkeepers throughout the country and The Artist'n Inn recipe for Happy Apple Pancakes with Cinnamon Cream Syrup was chosen among the best dozen pancake recipes in the country by BedandBreakfast.com judges.

It's a great time to visit...Bruce is usually around on weekends, restaurants aren't crowded and it's a great time of year to listen to the quiet.

Highland Farm BabyHere's a glimpse of one of the furries that we'll see on our next Wine and Cheese tour on April 11 & 12.  Two more Wine and Cheese Tours are scheduled for May 30 and 31, and November 14 and 15.  We've also planned a Wine Camp for September 15 through 17...more to come on that later.  We really enjoy our time with you on these weekends and can't wait to show you the new places we've discovered.  On tap this year is the Chocolate Covered Romance Weekend on February 29 and March 1, Beer and Pretzel Tours scheduled for June 20 and 21 and August 15 and 16, an Herb Weekend on May 9 and 10, and a Cajun Weekend on July 11 and 12.  They each offer fun ways to discover Lancaster County and we invite you to join us.
What Bruce Has Been Up To

Further ProofAs most of you know, this is the time of year when Bruce concentrates on drawing new pictures.  In fact, most days I see nothing but the top of his head, and hear the hum of the pencil sharpener.  One of his newest pieces, Further Proof of Global Warming, is shown here.  Visit the gallery page (Cows) (where they should be loaded soon) to see Oreos and Milk and Empire Steak Building.  For a look at what shows Bruce will be doing this year, click here.
When Chocolate Met Raspberry (An Affair to Remember)

Chocolate Raspberry Mousse

4 oz. Chocolate Raspberry bits (or premium chocolate)

1/4 lb. sweet butter, cut into small pieces

4 egg yolks

4 egg whites

1/3 cup sugar

1.  In a large saucepan, bring about 4 cups of water to a boil.

2.  Place chocolate in a stainless steel bowl and sit the bowl on top of the saucepan.  Lower the water to a simmer.  Stir the chocolate as it melts and add the butter.  Continue to stir until blended and remove from heat.

3.  Add yolks and whisk thoroughly.  Place the bowl in the refrigerator to cool slightly - just until room temperature (about 5 minutes).

4.  Beat egg whites until they stand in soft peaks.  Add the sugar gradually and continue to beat until combined and egg whites are stiff.

5.  Fold the egg whites into the chocolate mixture until completely combined.

6.  Spoon into 6 martini or wine glasses.

7.  Chill until ready to serve.

8.  Just before serving, top with fresh whipped cream and garnish with chocolate designs.  We use hearts for Valentine's Day.

Applause, Applause!

We want to thank all of you who have posted reviews.  We usually don't know who you are (the sites don't give us any information), but new guests often comment that the reason they chose The Artist's Inn is because of reviews posted online.  It also helps rank our site higher in the search engines.  So we applaud you for taking the time to post online reviews.    There's no better way to thank us....unless you visit again!
