Governor Cuomo Signs Property Tax Cap in Irondequoit
Last summer, then Attorney General Andrew Cuomo came to Irondequoit to announce his intention to enact a property tax cap after he was elected Governor.
Almost exactly one year later, Governor Cuomo was back in Irondequoit yesterday delivering on that promise by signing a new law that limits property tax levy increases to 2% or the rate of inflation, whichever is less.
Governor Cuomo called the new property tax cap the "crown jewel" accomplishment of what was the most productive and successful legislative session during my service in the Assembly. This new law will put an end to the runaway property taxes increases that have plagued Upstate New York and made Monroe County the highest taxed county in the nation.
I was proud to co-sponsor the property tax cap bill and proud to stand with Governor Cuomo yesterday in my hometown as he continues to lead New York back to prosperity.

Assemblyman Joseph D. Morelle represents the 132nd Assembly District, which includes portions of the city of Rochester and the Monroe County suburbs of Irondequoit and Brighton. He is Chair of the Assembly Standing Committee on Insurance and also serves on the Rules, Ways & Means, Economic Development and Higher Education committees.
