Morelle lauds expansion of RMSC's "Expedition Earth" exhibit
It was my privilege this week to be invited
to the unofficial
unveiling of the Rochester Museum
and Science Center's expanded "Expedition
Earth" exhibit, which allows visitors to
witness our region's natural history from
prehistoric eras to the present day.
In 2006, I was pleased to secure $50,000 for
"Glaciers and Giants," the first phase of
this project, which includes the remains of
two mastodons who roamed upstate New
York during the Ice Age.
Beginning today, two new exhibits, "You &
Your Earth" and "An Ever-Changing Planet"
will feature interactive displays and
dioramas devoted to the evolution of our
natural environment over hundreds of millions
of years.
Taken together, the three elements of
"Expedition Earth" constitute an
extraordinary educational and cultural
resource for our community, combining
state-of-the-art technology with the RMSC's
timeless commitment to excellence.
I want to take this opportunity to thank all
those who make the RMSC possible, including
its many generous community contributors and
hard-working staff, and particularly President
Kate Bennett and Board Chair Christine
Whitman, whose leadership and vision have
proven invaluable.
I look forward to continuing my partnership
with the Rochester Museum and Science Center,
and urge everyone to visit this great
institution.
