Assembly Secures $4.2M for South Avenue garage repair
I was pleased to join Rochester Mayor Bob Duffy,
City Council President Lois Giess and
my Assembly colleagues this week as we announced
a $4.2
million Assembly grant for the South Avenue garage
repair project.
Part of the garage's helix-shaped exit ramp collapsed
on Friday, April 21. Fortunately, the incident caused
no
deaths or injuries, but it does represent a large
and unexpected expense for city taxpayers.
Thanks to the hard work of Mayor
Duffy and Assembly delegation leader David Gantt,
Speaker Sheldon Silver agreed to the funding
announced on Thursday.
It is essential for downtown businesses and visitors
that the South Avenue garage be reopened as quickly
as possible. I'm pleased to have played a role in
making that happen, and proud that our delegation
was able to deliver this much-needed financial
support for our community.
