Are You Losing Leaves? Spring has arrived and most of our heat loving trees and shrubs are pushing out new growth and or blossoms. But they might be pushing out something else, old leaves. Most of us are probably experiencing a proliferation of leaf drop if we have Citrus, Hibiscus,Live Oak, Jacaranda, and Oleander just to name a few. This seasonal change over of foliage is completely normal and necessary. It can be exaggerated, however, if your plants are lacking nutrients. Be sure if you haven't already that you do fertilize soon. Fertilizing these plants will ensure that new growth does replace the yellowing and falling foliage soon and that you will have the blossoms you desire. If new foliage is not replaced fast enough or too sparsely there is a danger of sunburn to limbs and trunks that could be very damaging if not fatal in the long run. Harper's suggests using Organo or Fertilome brand fertilizers or Bradfield Organics. These products are designed for our warm weather growing conditions and will suit your plant and soil needs the best! Of course if you feel like your plants are not losing the "normal" amount of foliage please bring in some samples and we'd be glad to analyze them for you. |
