TOMATOES AND PEPPERS
Hopefully you are in the middle of preparing and planting the first installment of your spring/summer garden. Some of you have already planted-good for you!  Whether you have or are in the middle of, some things you should be doing! Remember that tomatoes and peppers are in fact annuals and need to grow, flower, and produce their fruit quickly! Any set back or delay can be devastating.  Be sure there is a constant supply of nutrients to the plants.  Fertilize consistently with Fertilome Start n Grow or Bradfield Organic "Tasty Tomato" fertilizers.  Keeping the plants in an all out sprint will insure consistent fruit size and productivity as well as getting as many fruit off the vine before the "finish line" of hot weather arrives!  I also like the use of water solubles, especially if you are container growing vegetables, in between regular fertilizations.  Fertilome's "blooming and rooting" or "geranium food" are excellent choices as well!  Be sure you water consistently as well!  Irregular watering can contribute to cracking or "crows footing" and may also be a factor in blossom end rot later in the season.  Of course staking and or using cages will be a must in a few weeks!  We'll be back in touch with more tomato and pepper tips as the season progresses!
