THANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
MANNA would like to thank all of the volunteers, pie sellers, pie purchasers and distribution sites for supporting Pie in the Sky 2009! For every pie sold, we are able to provide six nutritious meals to a client coping with a life-threatening illness such as HIV/AIDS, cancer and renal failure. Thanks on behalf of all of the clients we serve!
Sales were down this year and we still have pies available for your December holiday celebrations!
Stop by MANNA's Offices, 2323 Ranstead Street in Philadelphia, during regular business hours (Monday through Friday, 9am until 5pm) to purchase your pie. We accept cash, check, and credit card.

A DAY OF THANKSGIVING IN 2009
(Photo: Scott A. Drake)
MANNA celebrated its annual holiday tradition of delivering an abundant Thanksgiving Day meal to clients coping with HIV/AIDS, cancer and other life threatening illnesses and their families. Pictured above (L to R), MANNA board member Ahmeenah Young, Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter with his wife, Lisa, MANNA volunteer Miss Minnie White, PA State Representative Dwight Evans, MANNA Executive Chef Keith Lucas and MANNA CEO Richard Keaveney were on hand, along with more than 250 volunteers, to help prepare and deliver 2,400 meals.
This year's Thanksgiving Day event was dedicated to the memory of David Regnery (pictured, right) for his generous contributions and support of MANNA's nutrition program. "This traditional MANNA feast-for-four happens because hundreds of volunteers and the MANNA staff come together on that wonderful day with an intense collective spirit," says Richard Keaveney, MANNA's CEO. "The commitment of MANNA volunteers and staff ensures that all MANNA clients celebrate this special holiday and have something for which to truly give thanks."
Members of David Regnery's family were on hand volunteering on Thanksgiving Day. Pictured right to left, Linda Regnery, along with David Regnery's step-sons David Saxon and Rob Saxon Jr., MANNA's own director of volunteers and resource development.

Liz Braemer has been volunteering at MANNA on Thanksgiving Day since she was nine years old. Liz (pictured, center), who is now in her mid-twenties and resides in New York City, volunteers along with her mother Amy Finkel (pictured, right) and sister Kate (pictured, left) every Thanksgiving.
"Volunteering and giving back has always been an important value to my family," says Liz. "We've been coming to MANNA on Thanksgiving Day for years and years. It's a great day and there's a great sense of comraderie with the other volunteers." [more]

Tax-Free IRA Rollovers to Charity extended through 12/31/09
The tax-free charitable IRA rollover was extended until December 31, 2009 as part of The Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008. Under this legislation, you may be able to make a gift from an IRA to MANNA and exclude the transferred amount from your taxable income, if:
- the transfer goes directly from your IRA to MANNA
- your gift does not exceed $100,000
- your gift counts toward the required minimum distribution from your IRA
- the transferred amount is not included in your taxable income.
This information is shared with our donors who are interested in financial, estate and charitable planning. It is not intended to offer any legal, tax or financial advice. As always, MANNA strongly recommends that donors consult their own legal, financial or estate planning professionals for advice and guidance.
