Holiday Changes at MANNA - Thanksgiving & Christmas

Dear MANNA Family,
 
With great excitement, I know we all look forward to delivering a Thanksgiving Day dinner to every MANNA client on Thursday, November 26th. This traditional MANNA "soup to nuts" feast for two happens because hundreds of volunteers and the MANNA staff come together on that wonderful day with an intense collective spirit, ensuring that everyone in the MANNA family celebrates this special holiday and has something for which to truly give thanks.
 
I know, too, that you feel the same satisfaction that I feel as I look back on and ahead to MANNA's accomplishments. Because we now deliver 3 meals a day for 7 days a week to each client, we can end our Christmas Day meal tradition and will now remain open and at full force during the week between Christmas and New Year's Day each year. MANNA will be closed on December 25 and January 1. We should all be proud that we are making good on our commitment to provide 100% of every client's nutritional needs throughout the year.
 
It's your hard work, dedication and spirit that make these changes such positive ones. Thank you for embracing this change and for all you do for MANNA.

Join TEAM MANNA at
the AIDS WALK/RUN PHILLY
AIDS Walk/Run Philly
MANNA will have a team at this year's AIDS Walk/Run Philly, which is the Delaware Valley's largest annual HIV/AIDS public awareness and fundraising event. The event will be held on Sunday, October 18 at the Art Museum in Philadelphia.  

The AIDS Fund distributes money raised through this event to its partner organizations. The funds raised through your participation in MANNA's walk/run team will benefit MANNA.

Update: Workplace Giving Campaigns

United Way and combined workplace giving campaigns continue through the fall. MANNA thanks all of our United Way and combined campaign donors for their generous support for MANNA's mission.

United Way correction: MANNA does receive money directly from the United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania. However, the bulk of our United Way support comes from donor designated funds. As you head in to your workplace giving campaigns over the next few weeks, consider designating your United Way dollars to MANNA.

MANNA was the proud host of a 2-day event coordinated by the Pennsylvania Nutrition Education Network (PANEN). Can you imagine 35 nutrition educators busy in the MANNA kitchen, experimenting with many of cooking challenges our clients face in their everyday lives?!

PIE IN THE SKY 2009

Official Kick-off:

Our 13th annual holiday pie sale, sponsored by US Airways, kicks off on Wednesday, October 14 at The Shops at Liberty Place, 16th & Chestnut, from noon until 1 pm.

The US Airways Do Crew and other volunteers will give out samples of our five delicious pie flavors, with coffee provided by Saxbys Coffee.

MANNA's pies make great desserts to serve along with your Thanksgiving dinner. Because all proceeds benefit MANNA, a pie will fill both your stomach and your heart.

Visit www.mannapies.org - there you will find information on pie types, pick-up locations, and how to order. Pie pick-up day is Tuesday, November 24 from 3-8pm.

Volunteer:
Visit the site to find out how you can volunteer to help promote, distribute and deliver pies.

Become a Pie Seller:

You can become a pie seller, or start your own pie group and compete with other sellers and groups to win top seller honors.

Last year, Pie Sellers helped MANNA sell almost half of the total pies sold.  This year, with your help, we hope to do even more. Sign up today!

Food, fun and friends at the 2009 Volunteer Appreciation Cookout

On Thursday, September 17, MANNA staff celebrated the work of our volunteers at the 2009 Volunteer Appreciation Cookout at The Steven Korman Nutrition Center. MANNA volunteers (pictured, L to R) Lloyd Waller, Barry Vernick and Steve Sablosky were presented MANNA Slotted Spoon Volunteer Appreciation Awards.  The party was produced by members of The Philadelphia, Delaware and South Jersey chapters of the National Association of Catering Executives (NACE) and many other supporters.
