For the 14th consecutive year, the region’s most beloved chefs will unite for ChefAID: a six-course, black-tie, culinary extravaganza to benefit MANNA. Featuring the talents of more than 15 generous chefs representing local restaurants from around the region, ChefAID will take place at the luxurious Rittenhouse Hotel. This year's fundraiser will honor two of the founding chefs Jim Coleman and Robert Bennett.

Whole Foods
As part of a holiday philanthropy project, six Whole Foods Markets in the Philadelphia area selected MANNA to receive 100% of the proceeds from the sale of their “Clementine” reusable bag. From November 2006 to January 2007, MANNA received the full $2 purchase price of each bag sold during that time.

Whole Foods' initial goal was to raise $30,000, but the goal was surpassed by raising $42,133 for MANNA! Philadelphia’s Callowhill Whole Foods was the highest selling store in the Mid-Atlantic region raising 20% of the profits.

The participating stores in Center City were South Street and 20th and Callowhill Streets, as well as the Wynnewood, Devon, Jenkintown, and North Wales locations.

MANNA thanks everyone who works at Whole Foods Markets for creating this opportunity and for selling the bags. Special thanks to the customers of each store for supporting MANNA by purchasing the "Clementine" bags.

MANNA Advisory Board chair, Steven Korman, CEO of Korman Communities, hosted a special ceremony at the Rittenhouse Hotel on Friday March 9, 2007 to present Pennsylvania Governor Edward Rendell with MANNA’s first Humanitarian Leadership Award. Attended by about 40 local philanthropists, the ceremony also served as the unofficial premiere of a new DVD documenting MANNA’s services. Produced on a pro bono basis by Ray Murray and Banyan Productions, the 6 ½ minute film shows MANNA volunteers and staff in action and contains a moving client testimonial.

In brief remarks introducing Governor Rendell, MANNA CEO Richard Keaveny cited the Governor’s many years of support to MANNA and noted that the Governor was instrumental in securing critical funds for MANNA’s expanded mission. Accepting the award, the Governor mentioned his deep commitment to the organization as well as the pleasure it gives him to serve as its annual “Pie Ambassador” during the 30th Street Station retail sale on Thanksgiving eve. The Governor was presented with an etched crystal vase filled with Hershey kisses which he promptly turned over to his staff member with instructions to eat the kisses before returning the vase back to him.

Despite the stormy winter weather outside, February's MANNAfests event at Mission Grill we had great turnout and raised $1,000 for MANNA. Guests enjoyed samplings of Mission Grill’s sophisticated cuisine, along with a top-shelf open bar. Thank you to everyone at Mission Grill for all of their help making the night such a success!

Congratulations to our raffle winners: Abny Santicola won 2 tickets to the MANNAfests pre-party for Shut Up & Dance at The Forrest Theatre on March 24, 2007 and Gretchen McHale won a gift certificate to Juju Salon & Organics.
