On Thanksgiving, MANNA's kitchen was filled with 225 volunteers, who came from all over the Delaware Valley. The volunteers served Thanksgiving meals to 500 clients - a total of 2,000 meals. Each year, every client receives a Thanksgiving dinner for four so they can share the holiday with family and friends. Our thanks go to everyone who volunteered or bought a pie to support this holiday program during Pie in the Sky.

“Going home for the holidays to me means MANNA," said Sue Daugherty-Rodriguez, MANNA’s chief operations officer. "For 7 years MANNA has been my home on Thanksgiving and nothing is more rewarding than seeing volunteers return year after year, or the excitement of a new volunteer walking through the door for the first time! It is their time, energy, and compassion that made sure all of our clients had thanks to give on Thanksgiving! We want to thank all our volunteers who came out. You helped make it a wonderful Thanksgiving for our clients and their families."

If you didn’t get a chance to help out with Thanksgiving, you can still help make a difference by delivering Christmas Day meals to our clients and their families. Delivery shifts start as early as 10:30 AM and run until 1 PM on Christmas Day. Most volunteers will only make about 3 or 4 deliveries and it should take under 2 hours. You’ll have plenty of time to finish cooking your own holiday dinner!

E-mail Sue Aistrop to volunteer. If you are a returning holiday volunteer, please confirm that you will be here again this year.

Thanks for your help!

There's good news for those of you who enjoyed MANNA’s sweet potato pie! Delilah Winder, the phenomenal chef whose secret recipe was used to make MANNA’s sweet potato pie, has written a new book. Delilah’s Everyday Soul is a poignant, timely, and unique book that speaks to the way in which food and life merge everyday. In the spirit of renowned works by Edna Lewis, Nathalie Dupree, Damon Lee Fowler, and others, it colorfully combines recipes and the essential components of cooking with the stories and events that have inspired Chef Delilah Winder and her passion for food."

Nothing could be a better gift for the chef you know than a signed copy of Delilah Winder's new book. On Saturday, December 9 from 11 AM-1 PM, Delilah will be at Foster’s Gourmet Cookware in Reading Terminal Market for a cooking demonstration. Ms. Winder will prepare some of the Southern-inspired recipes from her new cookbook, Delilah’s Everyday Soul. Afterwards, Delilah will be signing books in the Center Court until 4:00 PM. The book sells for $29.95 and $5.00 from every book will be donated to MANNA and the Food Trust. Help MANNA celebrate the 15th anniversary of Shut Up & Dance and honor the dedication of the dancers of Pennsylvania Ballet by placing an ad in the 2007 Shut Up & Dance souvenir book. Shut Up & Dance is a one-night-only benefit performance for MANNA, performed by dancers of Pennsylvania Ballet. The performance of original works - choreographed and performed by the dancers in their uniquely spirited, funky and enthusiastic style - is scheduled to take place at The Forrest Theatre in March 2007 and is hosted by 88.5 WXPN’s Michaela Majoun.

This Holiday Season many of you are receiving invitations to holiday parties. Some of you may be planning parties of your own. Think back to gatherings that you’ve been to in the past - many times the host receives countless bottles of wine, scented candles or other gifts.

One interesting idea Jay Donner and Wendell Jones had when they hosted a birthday-anniversary party was to have guests make a contribution to MANNA. Rather than bringing a gift with them to the party; guest were asked to donate their money in support of MANNA. One advantage of this idea is that guests don’t have to fret over what type of present to give; in addition, they will feel better knowing that their gift will be used for someone in need. So when you’re looking for a gift to give your host or looking for a unique theme for your party this year, try the traditional idea of "Giving for the Holidays" and remember MANNA.

December 1st was World AIDS Day and M•A•C Cosmetics (one of MANNA’s most substantial corporate supporters) and a former MANNA client were featured on CN8's “Your Morning.” Catherine is HIV positive and received MANNA meals. When she was interviewed about the impact of the meal program she said, "MANNA saved my life. I feel truly blessed." Her health has now improved so much that she no longer needs to receive meals from MANNA.

M•A•C Cosmetics gave Catherine a makeover on air to promote this year’s new shade of VIVA Glam. M•A•C introduced VIVA Glam in 1994; all money raised from VIVA Glam products go to the M•A•C AIDS Fund to support the fight against HIV/AIDS. M•A•C Cosmetics has introduced a new shade of VIVA Glam just in time for the Holidays. To learn more about this product and how you can look great while joining in the fight against HIV/AIDS, check out M•A•C Cosmetics.
