I admit to a bit of nervousness in the weeks leading up to the MLK Day of Service. Along with Charlene, I found myself responsible for coordinating a full day of meaningful service and reflection on Dr. King's legacy, heading up a team of almost twenty volunteers and six BuildaBridge students.

It was a frigid January morning, and the halls of Jane Addams Place, an emergency family homeless shelter in West Philadelphia, were unusually quiet. Some of the shelter's 30-some families were out visiting relatives, running errands, or just relaxing in their rooms after a long week of work and school.

Travel Abroad to Central America, Eastern Europe, Africa and Asia

BB logoAre you a visual artist, videographer, photographer, poet, actor, musician, dancer, or do you practice any form of art? Would you like to use your artistic talent to help children? The international program at BuildaBridge is very excited about all the plans we have for the year.

Last year, Artists on Call traveled to Haiti, Kenya, and Guatemala for a week in November to use the arts to bring about hope and healing to these communities.

The Volpe and Koenig Giving Fund Awards BuildaBridge two-year Grant

The Volpe and Koenig Giving Fund has awarded BuildaBridge a two year grant for the Discovery Program. Discovery partners with emergency and transitional housing sites to provide arts-integrated education in multiple art mediums (dance, drama, visual art, music, culinary arts and creative writing).
Financial Experts Needed

BuildaBridge is looking for financial experts interested in participating on a volunteer basis in a community service training program focused on financial literacy. The program is 6-8 weeks long and will be starting in March. If you have expertise in homeownership, savings, bank accounts, loans and credits, and would like to share it with underserved families living in emergency and transitional housing, please email us at institute@buildabridge.org or 215 842 0428 x 11. The program will run in weekly two hour sessions.
