Wellesley's Renewable Energy Program Choose renewable energy today! It's easy, affordable and benefits our town, children and schools. Doing so will reduce Wellesley's dependence on fossil fuels, increase energy stability in NE and give a healthier planet to the children of Wellesley. Wellesley's Renewable Energy Program is an easy and affordable way to reduce your household's carbon footprint, and supports the town's goal of reducing emissions 10% by the year 2013. Currently, the Wellesley Municipal Light Plant offers local sources of wind, water, solar and biomass power - all clean, reliable and affordable. Signing up your household for 100% renewable is the equivalent of taking your car off the road for nine months - that's how much CO2 you will save! What will it cost? Cost is based on the percentage of energy you would like to come from renewable, local sources, at 4 cents per kWh more than Wellesley's already low rate. For a typical Wellesley home (using 850 kWh per month) signed up for 10% of its electricity from renewable sources, the monthly surcharge would be only $3.40. This is less than the current cost of a gallon of gas a month. Or you may choose: 25% renewable = $8.50 per month 50% renewable = $17.00 per month 100% renewable = $34.00 per month When combined with energy conservation/efficiency measures, the increase in your bill may be less. You may cancel at any time. What are the benefits? Aside from the obvious benefits to the environment, Wellesley Renewable Energy helps New England's economy by using local sources of renewable power. It also reduces our dependence on foreign sources of energy, and our reliance on finite resources such as natural gas. As an incentive to promote participation, each school that gets 25% of its population to sign up, will be awarded $500 for their PTO. This money can be used for library books, field trips, pizza parties, or an eco-themed assembly for the students. In addition, for participating schools that have auctions this year, they will receive an auction item: a year of free Wellesley Renewable Energy at the 100% level for one household (approximate value $400). If your family already buys Wellesley Renewable Energy, you can increase your enrollment to the next level (25%, 50% or 100%) or simply indicate you are a renewable energy user, and still qualify for the school's PTO prize. How Do I Sign Up? - To sign up right away, or to learn more about this program, go to www.wellesleyrenewableenergy.com or call 781.235.7600 x 3366
- Your child will be bringing home an enrollment card from school on March 5. In order for your enrollment to qualify for the PTO prize, please return the card, or indicate your school affiliation on the web before March 16. If you have already enrolled; would like to increase your percentage of renewable energy; or have signed up for your household at another school, simply indicate that on the card and we will credit all schools accordingly
- Encourage friends and neighbors in your community to do the same.
- Feel good about being part of the solution!
