Message From The President
I must begin by saying how thankful I am that the winter months are finally behind us. At times the unceasing pressures of assisting customers with snow removal from their roofs, evaluating snow loads on buildings, and working quickly to protect customer's property from catastrophic loss seemed overwhelming. However, the snow is gone, and now is the perfect opportunity for building owners to evaluate the conditions of their buildings for less obvious damage as a result of the harsh winter conditions, massive snow loads, and rapid snow removal in crisis situations.
Items to look for include depressions in the roof or wooden beams, and possible gutter, roof edge, siding, and window damage from snow sliding down and off the building. Furnace chimneys, plumbing stacks and gas lines may also have been damaged from sliding snow, resulting in potentially hazardous situations involving carbon monoxide leakage, sewer gas odors, and leaking gases posing potential explosion hazards.
I strongly encourage you to evaluate your buildings ASAP. Much of the damage may be covered by your property insurance now but the longer damage goes undetected, the greater the risk that insurance claims are denied because they were not filed in a timely fashion.
Munger Construction is available to assist you in evaluating your buildings. Feel free to give us a call and we will be happy to provide professional assistance and services wherever needed.
Sincerely,
David A. DeMaio, President

Recent Success Stories
Jesse Camille's Restaurant, 615 North Church Street, Naugatuck, selected Pat Munger Construction Company, Inc. to renovate their Naugatuck Borough-Owned building. The project scope of work included exterior renovations to the deck and walkway ramps and interior renovations to the kitchen, bathrooms, ceiling, and basement, including plumbing and electrical systems. The building is now handicap accessible.
Jesse Camille's was closed for 2 weeks while bathrooms, bar area and entrances were renovated. At that point, the restaurant reopened and its chefs operated from a 40 SF temporary kitchen in a trailer during the 5 weeks of additional renovations. Munger replaced the kitchen floor linoleum with quarry tile, installed fiberglass reflected panels on the walls and fiberglass ceiling tiles, and installed new sinks in the kitchen and dishwasher rooms. The new kitchen conforms to public health requirements and is now totally brought up to code.
Munger's triple focus included quality work, on-time completion of Phase One, and allowing Jesse Camille's to do business during the completion of Phase Two. I bet there haven't been any updates to the building in several centuries," said Jesse Camille's owner, Larry Erickson. "Our customers are excited."
In November 2010, Munger Construction completed a 7000 SF, 33'-6" tall new boat storage building for Brewer Ferry Point Marina, 29 Essex Road, Old Saybrook. In order to solve the challenge of poor soil conditions, flow-able fill was used to replace the unsuitable soils encountered on site. The new building was built into an embankment which required the foundation walls to be cantilevered above the floor height as retaining walls.
Notable features include a 27' wide x 30' tall, one piece hydraulic lift door by Schweiss Bifold Door. Design Two architect, Gary Tierney designed intricate, wider than normal trims to satisfy the architectural review committee requirements. "I was impressed with the intricate trims used for this project. Definitely a step above a "typical" metal building," stated Munger Vice President of Estimating and Design, Steve Mansfield.
Brewer Yacht Yards are located from New York to Maine. This project was just one of many buildings Munger Construction has provided for the Brewer marinas from Stratford to Old Saybrook. We appreciate the multiple business opportunities Brewer Yacht Yards have provided us and we look forward to continuing our business relationship in the future. |
In February 2011 Coynes Automotive selected Munger Construction to construct their new service center located at 1961 Foxon Road, North Branford, CT. Coynes Automotive is a state-of-the-art collision repair facility utilizing some of the world's finest automotive repair equipment. Owner, David Pacileo, wanted to expand his business from its present location in Westbrook, CT. The new 7,000 SF Varco-Pruden, pre-engineered steel building includes an office, reception area and state of the art autobody repair facility.
"It was our number one goal to help Mr. Pacileo turn his vision into reality by creating a cost effective, aesthetically pleasing facility." (David DeMaio, President) We wish him well in his new business expansion venture.
By the time you read this newsletter Munger Construction will be finishing up construction of a new after school care facility at Jerome Harrison Elementary School, 335 Foxon Road, North Branford, CT. The 2,400 SF, Varco-Pruden, pre-engineered steel building includes a pitched roof, wide detailed overhangs, and a matching color scheme. These features integrate perfectly with the newly renovated main school building. The environmentally controlled, handicap accessible facility includes two open multi-purpose rooms and two unisex bathrooms.
Munger Construction has a strong presence in the municipal sector. Our recent portfolio includes municipal projects in Branford, Guilford, Madison, Naugatuck, New Canaan, North Branford, North Haven, Redding, and Woodbridge.

John Lushinks is our featured employee in this issue's spotlight. John began working for Munger Construction as a carpentry sub-contractor. Seeing the potential he had, Munger offered him a position on our team in April 2006. John holds a variety of carpentry skills and consistently demonstrates knowledge, understanding and competence in the carpentry activities he undertakes. In addition to being a skilled carpenter, John has proven his worth in performing project specific foreman dutieson several construction projects. He shows potential in this area and will continue to refine his project foreman skills in the future. John lives in Hamden with his chocolate lab, Brownie. When not working, he enjoys hunting and fishing. John hunts deer and turkeys on a nearby piece of property and then prepares his own delicious game meals. When the stripers are in season, you might find John salt water fishing from his 18' Boston Whaler. However, John is strictly a catch-and-release guy...he does not eat fish! John's conscientious nature is revealed in his consistent follow up on foreman activities. He demonstrates a positive demeanor with all sub-contractors and customers he comes in contact with. John is willing to tackle any tasks presented to him. His positive attitude is refreshing and commendable. John is a valuable member of the Munger Team and we congratulate him on his 5 years with our company. Thanks John!!!
