Message From The President

We are all too familiar with the frequent complaints about building contractors not measuring up to their profiles and not making good on their promises. So how does one go about selecting the perfect contractor for their building needs? Well yes, the simple answer is, "Choose Munger." But here are a few guidelines to follow regardless of which contractor you ultimately choose.
Always carefully consider your contractor and the goods, services, and specifications presented to you before making your selection. Unfortunately, many times it is not until the project is in progress that the quality and content of what is being provided is fully understood. Often it is then too late to get out of a relationship that is heading down the wrong path.
Low price does not necessarily mean the best value!!! In these tough economic times it is hard not to focus on getting the lowest possible price. Low bidder wins. However, you may find yourself spending more than your projected budget to actually receive what you thought you were getting in the first place. And....you may find yourself more deeply involved in the project than you had hoped to be, which may then impact your ability to concentrate on your own business priorities.
Always review the content of each contractor's proposal to be sure you are comparing apples to apples. Watch out for loop holes and items left out of different proposals. There should be no lack of detail in any proposal you are considering.
In summary, always carefully select your contractor, focus on the best value for your money, make sure you know exactly what you are buying, and if you need assistance..........Call Munger.
Sincerely,
David A. DeMaio, President, LEED AP

He's been a mainstay for us for a while now and he's really lived up to our expectations. There's no flash with him, he's just so steady and gets the job done." Congratulations Dan and here's to "getting the job done" for the rest of your football career! |

Green Update

On Saturday, October 2, 2010 Munger Construction participated in the Solar CT Tour, part of the National Solar Tour held annually in communities across the country on the first Saturday in October, National Energy Awareness Month. The Solar CT Tour opens homes and commercial buildings throughout the state to provide the public with an opportunity to visit sites and learn about solar power and other green and renewable technologies. Munger Construction was pleased to be able to showcase our PV Solar System and answer people's questions about "green" opportunities available to them. Special thanks to Munger employees, Scott Croteau, and John McDonald for being Munger's hosts and tour guides throughout the day.
Munger is also excited about our newest solar project starting this November for Hubbell Heaters in Stratford. Once again, we will be working with our support partner, Spire Solar, to complete this project.

Recent Success Stories
Munger Construction recently constructed the fourth building in the Ed-Mor Business Park in Hamden, CT, for Ed-Mor Associates, 2666 State Street, Hamden, CT. This project consisted of a 12,000 SF, retail/warehouse business facility for a tenant in the Ed-Mor Business Park. The building included extensive concrete work, and a Varco-Pruden Buildings pre-engineered steel building. This building features a sloped mansard, with decorative brick veneer on two walls, and split-face masonry block on the other two walls. Munger Construction performed concrete, masonry, steel and interior carpentry services.
In this challenging economy we appreciate the opportunity we had to be involved in this project. This is the first building project we have completed for Edward Mauro of Ed-Mor Associates and we thank our new customer for the confidence he placed in Munger Construction.
Munger Construction has enjoyed a 10 year business relationship with Evergreen Woods, a Retirement Community and Health Center, located at 88 Notch Hill Road, North Branford. Throughout that time period we have developed a strong relationship with the maintenance and construction staff. Our work began with smaller maintenance and service related projects and has grown into the performance of larger scale projects, including common area upgrades, medical clinics, resident apartments, and renovation projects.
Currently we have been awarded an extensive renovation project for the development of an Alzheimer's wing which includes residential facilities. Munger Construction wishes to thank the maintenance and construction staff for their continued confidence in our company. We appreciate the opportunity to be of service to the entire Evergreen Woods community and look forward to continuing this mutually beneficial business relationship in the future.

Munger Construction is pleased and honored to be selected by Jeff and John Klarman of W.S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, to construct their new 6,000 SF facility at 244 North Main Street, Branford. Established in 1900, W.S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home is Branford's oldest, family-owned and operated funeral home. After many years at their 504 Main Street location the Klarmans made the important decision to move forward and expand their business at this new location, still located in Branford.
The new facility is a conventional, wood-framed building featuring a grand, octagon tower entrance and distinctive brick-work on the outside. The new facility includes many exterior and interior architecturally pleasing details, and ample room for parking on the premises.
"Service to families" is the foundation on which the funeral home was built and will continue to be the foundation on which they stand. Munger Construction is proud to provide W.S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home with the "physical foundation" and building to support their business venture.
In June 2010, Munger Construction received a call from long time customer, Von Roll USA, Inc., located at 115 River Street, New Haven, that a fire had damaged the boiler and incinerator room at the core of their facility. Fire damage to this room essentially shut down all production, making it impossible to produce their product and fulfill customer orders. Within 25 days on site, Munger Construction and a dedicated team of subcontractors and suppliers brought the facility on line and within 85% of production capacity, with no lost business orders. Authorization to begin permanent repairs was received August 23, 2010 and the expected completion date is December 15, 2010, with only one week of down-time for Von Roll.
We wish to thank Von Roll USA, Inc., the City of New Haven, subcontractors, suppliers, and the insurance company staff for a virtually seamless process of keeping Von Roll in business.

In this issue we wish to spotlight employee, Kevin Karge. Kevin came to Munger Construction as a rather "green" laborer, in February of 2006. With minimal construction knowledge or experience and rather unsure of himself, he jumped right into the construction business.
Over his 4 ½ years here he has settled nicely into the Munger Team. He continues to develop and refine his skills on a daily basis. Kevin is personable and willing to dig in and do anything that is asked of him, never shying away from work that needs to be done. He usually has a smile on his face and is quick to laugh and make others laugh with him.
Kevin lives in Branford with Sara and their 3-year old son. When not working for Munger, Kevin enjoys spending time with his family. He gets the greatest pleasure out of playing with his son and especially enjoys being outside and heading to the park. (I might add that his son is as quick with a smile and a laugh as his Dad is.) Kevin's other passion is following sports. Baseball and football are the BEST (in his opinion) and he is a die-hard Yankees and Pittsburgh Steelers fan. I'm sure it won't be long before Kevin is coaching his son to hit that homer or run in for a touchdown.
Kevin has developed into a good construction worker and more importantly is a good person! Through his dedication to Munger, his skills and confidence have grown and will continue to grow in the future. We are proud to have him on our Munger Team. Thanks Kevin!!!
