David's Picture

Yes, we are all acutely aware of the state of the economy and the pressures everyone is currently facing to "stay the course" and survive these most difficult times.  Most people are not looking to spend money on capital projects until things begin to turn around.  However, it is critically important that you do not ignore maintenance and repair issues on your building.

Building maintenance is like keeping yourself in good physical health.  Exercising, eating right, getting enough sleep, taking your vitamins, these are all measures you take to maximize your potential and improve your life situation.  Likewise, focusing on the routine maintenance and repair of your building maximizes its productivity and reduces the likelihood of costly repairs or replacements in the future.

One major item you should not ignore is maintaining the weather-tightness of your building. This includes roof inspections and repair to maintain water tightness, siding, window and door replacement to correct leaks, and replacing damaged or leaking gutters to insure proper runoff and avoid standing water that can cause further damage and create breeding places for mosquitoes.

Free AssessmentMunger Construction is available to assess your building needs.  Please call our office to schedule a free evaluation of your building.  We will identify potential problems, create a report on our findings, and provide cost estimates for suggested maintenance or repair.  We encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity to preserve one of your most valuable assets.  Take care of your building now so it can continue to take care of your business in the future.

Sincerely,

David A. DeMaio, President, LEED AP

Despite these difficult economic times Munger employees continue to offer up their time, talents and treasure.  In May 2009 Munger employees generously supported the Shoreline Relay for Life to benefit the American Cancer Society.  President David DeMaio's son, James, collected over $500 in pledges from Munger employees to support this cause.  We truly appreciate their generosity.

Munger Construction also sponsored employee Michael Adinolfi's son Michael, on a youth mission trip through Nichols United Methodist Church Appalachia Service Project Volunteers.  Work crews helped impoverished families by making homes warmer, safer, and drier in Central Appalachia.  Great work Michael!

Employees Roy Lamberton and John Martucci voluntarily stayed beyond their paid work time to mount and complete all carpentry work associated with mounting speakers on the outside of the new press box at Guilford High School.  The new sound system is now in place for all upcoming 2009-2010 sporting events on Kavanaugh Field.

Congratulations go out to employee Shaun Dwyer on his marriage to Aimee on July 18, 2009.  We wish them all the best as they begin this new and exciting phase of their lives.

Green Business

ASTEC Re-Ply Cool Roof Systems can save your roof, save energy, save the environment and save you money!  ASTEC provides an alternative to costly roof replacement.  They provide a multi-layer, liquid membrane coating that is applied to "tired" roof systems to prolong the life of the base metal material and regain your old roof's weather-tight integrity.  Considered a "cool" roof product they surpass all Energy Star, and LEEDS standards as well as providing a 10-year renewable warranty.  Generally the cost is about 40% less than the cost to install a new roof system.   If you want further information about ASTEC Re-Ply Cool Roof Systems please contact us.  We will be happy to discuss the possibility of incorporating it into your existing building today.

Work in Progress

Munger Construction continues to complete projects for Covidien
(formerly United States Surgical Corporation).  One current project is for the Global Marketing Division on the second floor of the main office building at the North Haven campus.  This project includes gutting the interior offices, rebuilding conference rooms and offices, installing new carpeting, detailed millwork, and completion of a display wall to display their products.

In keeping with Munger Construction's Green Initiative, most existing interior doors and hardware and many steel studs were salvaged and reused.  This is not only a cost savings for the customer but truly an eco-friendly step to recycle these materials and keep them out of the landfills.

Employee Spotlight

John DeSarbo joined the Munger team in April 2005, bringing with him an education from St. Michael's University in VT, and extensive hands-on experience in finish carpentry and trim work.

John is the "Stanley Steamer Engine" of Munger Construction - quiet, efficient and dependable.  A competent, highly valued project superintendent, John ensures that each project he supervises moves forward at a steady, productive pace.  He is well liked and respected by his fellow employees and subcontractors.  His even temperament provides a calming and comforting presence to customers at all times.  And... when talking about John you cannot leave out his trusty sidekick, Riley.  Riley is a handsome golden retriever who accompanies John to all job sites, riding shotgun in John's truck and acting as an additional project supervisor whenever possible.

John and Riley live in Branford, CT with John's wife and her son.  One of John's favorite hobbies is... eating.  Perhaps you have even seen his picture in the Guilford Courier for his superb effort in the local hot dog eating contest.  John is an avid motorcyclist and has taken his Harley to many motorcycle rallies including ones in Lake George, NY; Laconia, NH and even as far west as the Dakotas.  He also enjoys salt water fishing.  Finally, John can often be seen cruising around in the classic 1965 Ford Mustang he rebuilt himself.

John and Riley are valued members of the Munger team.  They provide a source of strength and demonstrate efficiency to all those around them.  We are lucky to have them on board!  Thanks John, for all you contribute to Munger Construction.  You are appreciated!!!
