Message From The President
Frequently new customers of ours inquire
about the
name "Pat Munger" Construction Company. Why are
we named that and just who is Pat Munger?
Philip "Pat" Munger lived from 1922 to 1992. Pat
Munger founded the Pat Munger Construction
Company in the late 1960s. Prior to starting the
business, Pat worked with two large construction
companies in Connecticut. He ran the metal
building
division for Wooding Company and he also
worked for
Dwight, another large firm. When his business
was
founded, Pat Munger provided "shell only"
contracting
services. The firm's specialty was
pre-engineered
steel buildings, which still holds true today.
In 1983, Pat was actively looking for a
qualified person
to bring into the firm who would eventually
take over the
company when he was ready to retire, as he
had no
family members to whom he could leave the
business. I had known Pat while working at my
father's auto repair garage while in high
school and
college. I decided to join the firm in 1983
and a buy-
sell agreement was made between Pat and myself.
Pat was an incredible mentor to me and a
friend to
everyone he came in contact with. His gentle
presence
and unwavering moral character earned him a
stellar
reputation in the building industry. A week
rarely goes
by that I do not hear a kind story about Pat
or meet
some person who he had come in contact with.
Long-
term relationships were his hallmark and the
basis of
his successful life. Today, Munger
Construction has
grown into a company capable of providing full
general contracting services and we continue
to pride
ourselves on fostering and maintaining long-term
business relationships.
In 1992, Pat Munger retired from the business
and I
took over. Sadly, on August 3, 1992, at the
age of 69,
Pat Munger died unexpectedly at his home.
Upon Pat's
passing I felt no need to change the name of the
company. In fact, I still view it as a
tribute to an
outstanding individual and an asset to our
company
today.
We at Munger continually strive to uphold the
values
Pat Munger founded the company on almost 40
years
ago. Pat Munger was truly a remarkable man and I
hope that he would be proud of the legacy he
left
behind and our company as it stands today.

| Employee Spotlight |

In October 2001, John McDonald joined the
Munger team. John came to Munger with an
extensive
background in machine maintenance in the
manufacturing sector, where his responsibilities
included maintaining a variety of machines and
equipment. John's ability to repair
electrical power
tools has proven to be an added benefit to
having
John on our team.
John is a problem solver and he consistently
demonstrates his ability to work through the
"not-so-
run-of-the-mill" tasks presented to him in
the field of
construction. Because John is mechanically
inclined
he can be assigned a variety of challenging
tasks and
continually demonstrate the aptitude to work
through
and solve any problems he encounters.
John lives in Durham, CT with his wife Lee
and their
two golden retrievers. In his free time John
enjoys
building furniture, traveling and motorcycle
riding.
John's travel plans include taking a combined
train/bus/cruise ship trip to Alaska in the
near future.
John has also traveled across country for
four weeks
on his motorcycle and his dream is to some day
motorcycle the Alaskan Highway.
John is very personable and well liked by all
who
come in contact with him. His sense of humor and
cheerful attitude always keep people smiling.
John fits
nicely into his niche of managing the variety of
construction tasks sent his way and we consider
ourselves lucky to have him as part of the
Munger
Team. Thanks John!

| Tech Tips |

When was the last time you thought about your
building gutters or roof drains? When they
overflowed
in the last heavy rain? When they leaked by the
entrances to your building?
Regular maintenance of your building's gutter
and
roof drain systems will save you headaches and
repair costs due to water damage. Several
times a
year your building's gutters and downspouts
should
be cleaned and flushed clear of leaves and other
debris.
Gutters filled with debris put a tremendous
strain on
the gutter hanger system, causing damage to that
system and the building roof edge.
A regular cleaning program should be
implemented to
stay on top of this often forgotten component
of every
building. Remember that this work should only be
attempted by personnel comfortable working at
the
roof heights. Workers should have proper fall
protection training and equipment, and use
the proper
ladders or man lifts.
Munger Construction can be called upon for this
valuable service, in addition to performing
repairs with
our qualified and trained staff, should the
need arise.
Give us a call if we can be of service.
