Message From The President
Looking back through my President's
Messages from previous newsletters I see
that they all address business related
topics. This issue I decided to focus on a
personal topic that is something I value
greatly.
Two questions I believe we all ask
ourselves when we leave our homes each
day for work are, "What do we do this for?
and "Why do we spend so many hours of
every day, doing what we do?"
There may be many answers to these
questions; however, I believe a universal
reason for all of us is the undisputed fact
that we work for the betterment of our
family. As an employer, I believe very
strongly that I must recognize this link
between
employee and family.
It is important to set aside time for things
like watching your son or daughter
compete in a sporting event, visiting your
child's school, going to a music or theater
production your child is participating in,
visiting a college your child hopes to apply
to, the list goes on. Whenever possible I
strive to support my employees in their
efforts to strengthen these family bonds.
Time spent with your loved ones is
invaluable and cannot be replaced.
As the years go on we seem to have less
time to relax and spend time with our
families. We are all constantly running here
and there, meeting deadlines, etc. Several
years ago, in an effort to help my
employees slow down and enjoy some
family time,
I offered an open-ended gift certificate for
each employee to take some time for
family fun and relaxation. This involves
scheduling a weekend away, or even a
special day trip with the family. This idea
has been well received in the past and the
feedback I have had has all been very
positive.
I realize that it may be difficult for people to
schedule time away with all of our
obligations, children's activities, etc. I do
encourage each employee to make the
extra effort to take advantage of this
opportunity. I also encourage anyone
reading this message to take a moment or
two to reflect on what is truly
important to you.
Time moves forever forward. Remember to
take time to enjoy your family along the
way. I know I do.

F & F Mechanical Enterprises, Inc, newly
located at
2 Dwight Street, North Haven, CT, is a
mechanical
contracting company specializing in all areas of
mechanical construction (plumbing, fire
protection,
HVAC). After outgrowing their previous space,
F&F
began the relocation process by contracting
Munger
Construction to provide concrete, steel and
glass work
for a 37,475 SF building with a 14,045 SF second
floor mezzanine.
The new building includes a large manufacturing
area, and office space featuring expansive
areas of
glass, for their estimating and engineering
departments. Architect, Joseph Ferrucci,
designed the building, and Munger Project
Manager, Sven Uljens, oversaw the job
from start
to completion. Varco Pruden metal framing was
used
for the office area and then a TPO membrane
roofing
system was installed on the pre-engineered
frame.
The exterior is covered with Morin Panel
horizontal
ribbed siding.
One outstanding feature is the main entry
stair. The
steel stair system with concrete treads and an
intermediate landing features railings
utilizing Marine
type cables with oak handrails. This is truly
a focal
point upon entering the building.
Munger Construction wishes to thank F&F
Mechanical
for providing us the opportunity to
demonstrate our
ability to work with non-standard metal
components,
ultimately producing a building displaying
extraordinary architectural detail. We wish
them much success in their new facility.

AFCON Products, Inc., located at 35
Sargent Drive, in Bethany, has been a valued
repeat customer of ours. Previously we put an
addition
on their building that doubled the size of
their facility.
Recently we completed another 4,000 SF addition.
AFCON is a manufacturer specializing in the
support
and repair of Mobile Electric Power generator
sets and
related equipment for the military. The current
additional space is a warehouse area for greater
inventory space for on-demand shipment of
supplies
required by the military.
The addition is a Varco Pruden, pre-engineered
building. Great attention to detail was
practiced in an
effort to marry the addition to the existing
building
without appearing like an "addon" structure. The
project also involved extensive site work,
including
relocation of the septic system to
accommodate the
new addition, and reconfiguring parking and
loading
dock areas for easier shipping and receiving
access.
The Design-Build Team consisted of the Munger
staff, site design by Criscuolo
Engineering, site work by Tenedine
Construction, structural design by
Michael
Horton and Associates, architectural
plans by
Design Two Architects, steel erected by
First Choice Builders, glasswork by
Massey Glass, doors by Advanced
Overhead Door, and paving by Maisano
Brothers. Munger Construction completed
all the
concrete foundations, flat work and retaining
walls
with their in-house staff. Project
Manager, Roy
Lamberton of Munger Construction, skillfully
coordinated the overall project.
Munger Construction truly appreciates the
confidence
AFCON Products has repeatedly placed in our
company. We wish them continued success in their
newly expanded facility and we look forward to
continuing our mutually beneficial business
relationship for many years to come.

Aquarion Water Company of Connecticut
is a
public water supply company for approximately
174,000 customer accounts, or more than 587,000
people in Connecticut. Since 1857 they have
been in
the public water supply business and they are
the
largest investor-owned utility in New England.
Munger Construction is currently working on a
2,700
SF addition to Aquarion's William S.
Warner Water
Treatment Plant, in Fairfield, CT. This
water
treatment plant is designed to treat up to 50
million
gallons of water per day from Hemlocks
Reservoir.
Our construction project consists of a
primary and
secondary containment building for import and
export
of chemicals used in treating this potential
drinking
water for public consumption.
The addition is a Varco Pruden, pre-engineered
building featuring a large bay door for
tanker truck
access, and an epoxy coated, cast-inplace
containment reservoir to contain potential
spillage.
The building design specifically addresses the
environmental requirements for chemical usage.

October 5, 2007 marked Vice
President of Estimating/Construction
Management, Steve Mansfield's, 15-year
anniversary at Munger Construction.
Steve came to Munger Construction as a
third generation builder with 31 years of
experience in various aspects of the
construction business.
When Steve first came to Munger
Construction, Pat Munger had just recently
passed away and Munger Construction
was undergoing its first "growth spurt"
under David DeMaio's leadership. Steve
was hired as a project manager/estimator
for a large construction project for
Algonquin Industries, in Guilford, CT.
Steve's dedication and attention to detail
became quickly apparent and he became
Munger Construction's first full time project
manager outside of Pat and David.
Steve's ability to produce accurate and
extremely detailed estimates helped open
many doors of opportunity for Munger
Construction and business continued to
grow.
Currently, Steve coordinates the flow of
project estimates through the office as well
as providing support services for field
project managers. Steve's even temper
and positive approach to all situations
makes him extremely easy to work with. He
is a master of his trade, exhibiting
professionalism in all he does, and he has
earned the respect of all who know him.
Steve lives in Clinton, with his wife,
Carolyn, and their two children, ages 16
and 18. In his free time, Steve enjoys being
involved in the soccer programs in Clinton,
CT. Last spring Steve coached his son's
U16 soccer team and this coming spring
he will coach the U19 team.
Steve is also in charge of running the
Clinton Invitational Soccer Tournament
each May. This tournament hosts 88
soccer teams, in 192 games on 11 fields,
for 2 days. (sounds like a lot of work in his
"free" time) In addition, Steve was the
team manager for the high school soccer
team at The Morgan School in Clinton this
fall. And when he isn't at Munger or on a
soccer field somewhere, he does
enjoy working around his home and yard,
and riding his motorcycle.
Steve is a key element to the growth and
success of Munger Construction. We are
all pleased and honored to have him as a
member of our staff. THANKS STEVE!
