Message From The President

LEED AP is now a credential proudly held by four Munger
employees, Steve Mansfield, Vin Della Rocca,
Frank Sacramone Jr., and myself.
LEED AP
stands for
Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, Accredited Professional. This
credential was attained by successfully completing a two day, LEED AP New
Construction 2008 exam preparation course conducted by Everblue Energy, AND passing the highly
challenging LEED AP exam in early January 2009.
Obtaining the LEED AP credential and seeking out the services of other
LEED AP vendors is an important component of Munger Construction's Green
Initiative.
The LEED Green Building Rating System was created by the U.S. Green Building Council, a nonprofit
organization, with input from a variety of building industry stakeholders. The council sought to establish a system that
provides independent, third-party verification that a "green" development
delivers high performance energy efficiency in an environmentally safe
manner. More than 100 state and local
governments, including Connecticut, have enacted green building laws that
incorporate LEED rating systems.
Our LEED certification has
broadened our knowledge base and allows us to provide assistance to design
teams exploring sustainable energy options.
We are now better prepared to offer our customers "Green" choices and to
educate people about the incentives that go along with making these changes for
their company.
Speaking for myself, I have
not had to study extensively or take an exam for MANY years (probably since college). It was undoubtedly a
humbling experience. The "thrill of victory," however, was a feeling I won't
soon forget!!! I applaud the efforts of Steve, Vin, and Frank and heartily
congratulate them on their achievement.
Munger Construction has made a
commitment to energy efficiency and exploring feasible solutions to protect the
environment by utilizing renewable energy.
Becoming LEED- Accredited Professionals has launched us well on our
way! Now, how can we help you???
Sincerely,
David A. DeMaio, President, LEED AP

Safety Update

In early January
2009, Munger celebrated 90 days with No- Lost- Time (because of an accident or
injury), with a delicious company breakfast catered by Lynn's Deli of Branford.
Munger has also recognized 5 employees as Safety Award recipients for
the months of November, December, January and February. Jeff
Landon, Rafael Rosado, John Martucci, John McDonald, and Kevin Karge have all been recognized for
exemplary health and safety practices on the job site. We applaud their conscious effort to keep
safety a top priority at all times.

"Green"
Update: What's new at Munger?
A
Green Initiative Leadership Committee made up of a cross section of Munger
employees has been established to assist in making sustainable energy
operations part of our company profile.
The committee will identify projects of importance, implement action
plans relating to these projects, and then verify the projects by disseminating
information to others outside of Munger Construction. The first major project the committee will
undertake is implementing waste management practices, both in the office and on
the job sites. Stay tuned for further updates on our "green" progress.

Recent Success Story
Once
again we want to thank The Lee Company for their continued confidence in
Munger Construction. We recently
completed our sixth and seventh building projects for The Lee Company at
Pequot Park Road in Westbrook, CT. Together
with Tom Gribbin and Noyes Vogt Architects we have worked to design and
construct an 85,000 square foot Varco-Pruden pre-engineered building system
and a 4,800 square foot detached maintenance and storage building.
The
Lee Company is a manufacturing company specializing in the production of
miniature precision fluid control components for aerospace, down-hole oil
tools, machine tools, medical/scientific instrumentation, and ink-jet printing. Munger Construction worked closely with Robert
Lee, executive vice president and Leighton Lee, facilities manager,
throughout the design phase and actual construction. This recent building houses the Plug Group,
overseen by Jeff Dickey, Vice President of the Plug Group.
 This
250' x 340' manufacturing and assembly facility also includes 9,300 SF of
finished office space and a 20,000 SF mezzanine for equipment and storage. There is a tank farm on site which houses
nitrogen, helium, and hydrogen necessary to operate the highly specialized
machinery and equipment inside the facility.
The
completed building is impressive to see and we all wish The Lee Company
continued success in their newest facility.
Munger Construction truly values the trust and confidence The Lee Company
continues to place in us. We look
forward to working together with them in the future.

Work-in-Progress
Massey Properties develops and leases space for commercial and light
industrial clients. Currently Munger is
constructing a 6,000 SF building designed to accept up to two office tenants in
Class A office space, located at 780
East Main St., Branford. The building is a Varco Pruden pre-engineered
building system designed in harmony with Massey's architectural exterior
cladding system featuring glass and metal components. The interior includes a center core of
utilities and offers flexible use of space to prospective tenants. Sound interesting? Contact Fred Petrella of CT Realty Group, LLC, 203-314-7439, for more details.
Moving just a few miles down
the road you come to our next project, a 5,200 SF, two-story addition to the
main business facility for Van Wilgen's Garden Center on Valley Road in North Branford.
This addition
features expanded retail space, new stockroom, customer comfort facilities and
office space and conference rooms. This
is also a Varco Pruden, pre-engineered building system utilizing the same
architectural features as the existing building that Munger Construction
originally built in 1998. One exciting
new "Green" feature is the installation of a geo-thermal HVAC system.
Moving a few more towns over
we are completing a 26,300 SF addition to an existing manufacturing facility
for Burt Process Equipment, Inc. on
Overlook Drive in Hamden. Burt Process designs, manufactures
and services wastewater treatment systems. This Varco Pruden, pre-engineered
building system features a decorative masonry and stucco façade with extensive
areas of glass. The addition houses
13,000 SF of production and manufacturing space, 9,700 SF of finished office
space, and a second floor storage area.
The interior includes an impressive entry with a custom staircase and
maple millwork.

In this issue we are proud to
put the spotlight on someone who would generally prefer NOT to be in the
spotlight at all, Roy Lamberton. March of 2009 marks Roy's 5-year anniversary with Munger
Construction. He came to us with a
strong background in the field of construction as well as experience in running
his own construction business.
Roy is a "man of few
words." His non-confrontational
personality and even demeanor make him easy to work with. Although he often runs jobs as the project
superintendent, he rarely if ever gets riled about anything that comes his
way. Roy handles any situation with
quiet confidence. His work ethic is
strong and his craftsmanship is excellent.
This makes Roy an exemplary member of the Munger Team!
Roy grew up in Guilford, CT
where he now resides with his wife and their two sons. Roy has always been an
active supporter of athletics in the town of Guilford, particularly the sports
of football and wrestling which both of his sons excel in. Roy's interest in sports has also led him to
become a referee for local football at the youth and high school levels. When not in the sports arena Roy spends time
working on his favorite on-going project...his home. And, once in awhile in the Fall, he squeezes
in a little time for deer hunting.
Roy is a dedicated employee
who works hard to ensure that things run smoothly on the job sites. His quiet strength and pleasing personality
make him a solid presence on the Munger team.
Thanks for all you do Roy. You
are appreciated!!!
