The Veterinary Profession Needs Your Support
- TVMA is your voice at Legislative Plaza and has worked diligently to protect animals and the veterinary profession.  Here are just a few examples of how TVMA has been effective in state legislation:  introduced the Practice Act bill which was passed into law, successfully defeated a rabies vaccination tax bill, protected veterinarians in a tort reform bill, and worked out significant changes in the original draft of the controlled substance database bill which allows some exemptions for veterinarians.  We expect that with each legislative session TVMA will be required to be more active.  With each session, we ask legislators to support the veterinary profession.  There have been several who have gone the extra mile for TVMA and for you and your practice.  It's time for us to support them.  By supporting TN-V-PAC, you are joining other veterinarians, as a group, to make a larger impact for the profession itself.

Become a TN-V-PAC Member today. Members will be recognized at the MCVC.

The levels of support are:
President Member - $1,000 and above
Governor Member - $500-$999
Senator Member - $150-$499
Capitol Member - $75-$149

FDA Investigates Animal Illnesses Linked to Jerky Pet Treats - Since 2007, the FDA has become aware of increasing numbers of illnesses in pets associated with the consumption of jerky pet treats. The majority of complaints involve chicken jerky (treats, tenders, and strips), but others include duck, sweet potato, and treats where chicken or duck jerky is wrapped around dried fruits, sweet potatoes, or yams.  The FDA has received approximately 2,200 reports of pet illnesses which may be related to consumption of the jerky treats. The majority of the complaints involve dogs, but cats also have been affected. Over the past 18 months the reports have contained information on 360 canine deaths and one feline death. There does not appear to be a geographic pattern to the case reports. Cases have been reported from all 50 states and 6 Canadian provinces in the past 18 months.  Read more...

Renewal Alert from the National Veterinary Accreditation Program (NVAP) - In July 2012, veterinarians whose accreditation renewal dates (ARD) are in January 2013 will begin receiving email reminders of their upcoming ARD. Veterinarians who do not have email addresses on record with the NVAP will be reminded by mail. You must ensure that the contact information on file for you is current. If your contact information has changed, you must contact the Area Office which oversees the State in which you perform accredited duties as soon as possible. VS Form 1-36A is the form you will need to update your contact information. If you do not renew your accreditation by your ARD, you are no longer authorized by USDA to perform duties which require accreditation. Please see Your Renewal in the NVAP for details. Beginning December 2012, an online accreditation renewal process will be available. For more information, click here.
