Proposal calls for changes in antimicrobial use
The Food and Drug Administration hopes a guide and draft guide on antimicrobial use and availability and a proposed change in the process of issuing veterinary feed directives will lead industries to change the way antimicrobials are used in livestock. If industry agrees to follow the voluntary guidance, fewer antimicrobials would be available for production uses rather than to treat, prevent, or control disease. Read more...

The Dog Talk Project is a survey and data collection program that studies the relationships between people and their dogs. The premise of Dog Talk is simple - we explore the details of relationships between dogs and their people by creating and distributing owner surveys that examine a wide variety of dog-related topics. Information collected through the surveys is organized into a continually expanding database, which is then used to answer questions about dogs' lives, their health care, nutrition, behavior, training, and their relationships with the other dogs and the people in their lives. Visit their website at http://www.dogtalkproject.com.
Colleges Go to the Dogs for Stress Busters
Just down the hall from the reference desk at Emory University's law library in a room housing antique legal texts is Stanley the golden retriever puppy, barking his head off. Stanley rolls around on the floor and chews on a squeaky toy while zombie-like law students wander in, a giant grin breaking out on their weary faces when they see the cuddly boy. Puppy therapy - just in time for finals week. From Kent State University in Ohio to Macalester College in Minnesota, more and more pooches are around campus during exams to help students relax and maybe even crack a smile or two. Read more...
