AVMA Convention 2011:
The AVMA Convention will be held at America's Center in downtown St. Louis July 16-19. Read More... AVMA looking for most talented conventioneers to perform at St. Louis convention.
Got talent? Planning to attend the 2011 convention of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) in St. Louis July 16-19? Well, get ready to open for actor/comedian Jay Mohr!
For the first time, the AVMA is holding open auditions for talented members, friends and family of the AVMA to perform at the annual convention as an opening act for comedian Jay Mohr. Mohr will be doing a comedy show at the Sunday Night Live event on July 17.
"We know we have talented members and friends at the AVMA. This is a great opportunity to showcase that talent," explains Dr. Ron E. Banks, chair of the AVMA Convention Management and Program Committee. "Up to three finalists will serve as warm up acts for Jay Mohr, who is famous for performances in movies like 'Jerry Maguire' and as an alumnus of 'Saturday Night Live.' The winner will receive free registration for the 2012 convention in San Diego, California."
Talent can range from singing, dancing, playing an instrument, telling jokes, or anything else that can entertain an audience. Video submissions must be posted on the AVMA's Facebook page by no later than 11:59 p.m. July 1, 2011. The finalists will be judged on the quality, creativity, and the appropriateness of their act for the convention audience plus the number of "votes" their act receives on the AVMA's Facebook page. To vote, viewers simply watch the submissions and hit the "Like" button for their favorite performance. The "Like" button serves as their vote for that performance.
AVMA conventioneers will get a second chance to vote on the winner during the event. Just like a televised talent competition, people in the audience will vote to pick a winner from the finalists during the performance via text message voting. For complete contest rules visit the AVMA Website. |

Tennessee Cattle Identification Program (TCIP). Beginning July 1, 2011, Tennessee licensed and accredited veterinarians doing food animal practice will be able to participate, on a per head fee basis, in the Tennessee Cattle Identification Program (TCIP). The TCIP was developed by the Tennessee Department of Agriculture (TDA) as part of the Tennessee Agricultural Enhancement Program (TAEP) to provide a system for tracking the movement of cattle in the event of a major disease outbreak; to meet the identification requirements for the interstate movement of cattle; and to satisfy traceability requirements and standards for international trade. An added benefit to Tennessee cattlemen is to provide a means of identification and assistance in tracking lost or stolen cattle. There is no charge to Tennessee cattlemen for participation in the program.
Effective July 1, participating accredited veterinarians will be able to promote and enlist their clientele to participate in the voluntary TCIP. For services rendered, the veterinarian will be paid an incentive fee by the TDA. In addition, participating veterinarians will apply identification devices (ear-tags) to eligible cattle in participant herds in the course of their daily practice, and report such identifications to the TDA. For more detailed information, please contact Tina Rogers, TDA, at 615/837-5120 or 615/837-5241 or by email at tina.d.rogers@tn.gov.
