UTCVM Large Animal Hospital Challenge

UTCVM is currently raising funds to support the planning and construction of the Large Animal Hospital. They have issued a challenge--if you give at least $12,500 by March 15, 2011, a donor will match your gift. TVMA Executive Board has agreed to donate $30,000 toward this challenge. If you are interested in making a donation but are unable to meet the minimum requirement of $12,500, here's an opportunity to add your donation to TVMA's. Mitchell to be interim Ag. Institute leader - University of Tennessee Vice Chancellor Buddy Mitchell will serve as interim leader of the Institute of Agriculture. The appointment comes as current Agriculture Chancellor Joe DiPietro prepares to take the post of president of the UT system. The Knoxville News Sentinel reports this will be the third time Mitchell has been the interim leader of the Agriculture Institute. He will take over on Jan. 1. DiPietro hopes to name a permanent replacement by July 1. Mitchell's appointment was announced Friday. Read More ...

AVMA asks for public input on revised veterinary guidelines - AVMA is revisiting its Model Veterinary Practice Act to take into account recent advances in the field and is seeking public comments. "This is an excellent opportunity for veterinarians, pet owners, the public, farmers or really anybody who cares about animals and veterinary medicine to offer input that will help guide the profession," the MVPA task force's chairman said. Texas court rules in favor of horse dentists - A ruling this week by a judge in Austin, Texas, ended a three-year legal fight by so-called "floaters," horse dentists who objected to a 2006 rule change by the state's Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners that limited equine dental care to veterinarians.
