As we give to our denomination in this way, we are participating in a global mission effort for justice. The funds collected throughout the denomination will help make a difference in Eastern Europe, Jamaica, Malaysia, Pakistan, Nigeria, and Latin America, as well as across North America, Western Europe and Australia where we continue to work for equal rights for all of God's children. |

WOULD JESUS DISCRIMINATE?
CAMPAIGN EVENTS & UPDATES. MCCGD is participating with the 5 area MCC's in planning for a DFW "Would Jesus Discriminate?" Campaign. This Campaign has already been conducted in Indianapolis and Minneapolis and is being planned in many cities across the US as part of celebrating the 40th Anniversary of Metropolitan Community Churches.
The DFW Campaign has already begun our "internal" launch of training and preparation. The "external" or public launch will be in August with events for you to participate in through September and October.
What Is This All About?
Throughout the history of Christianity, many religious institutions have used their interpretation of the Bible to justify discrimination against women, ethnic minorities, and people with a different sexual orientation and/or identity issues. In particular, the dominant conversations around sexual orientation and gender identity issues have been framed in religious bigotry and intolerance. People in groups that differ from the majority tend to be marginalized in society. People of faith probably would not imagine that Jesus would discriminate, but no one has previously asked the question. Many still maintain discriminatory beliefs, not because they think it is right, but because they have never actually examined their own beliefs closely. This campaign asks the question and initiates the dialog around the question: "Would Jesus discriminate?" Our viewpoint is that discrimination was not a part of Jesus' message, nor is it part of the best of any Christian church's ministry. This campaign seeks to educate people through active dialog and friendly discussion.
This Campaign uses market-tested strategies to increase exposure to the question and resources as well as initiate dialogue at many levels. The DFW Campaign will utilize billboards, T-shirts and bumper stickers as primary vehicles for exposing the public to the question "Would Jesus Discriminate?" We have many opportunities coming for you to learn about this campaign and how you can be involved. Remember this is an election year and many faith based arguments are given for various political positions! We have the opportunity to influence the dialogue in a very important year!
