GOOD FRIDAY
WALK OF FAITH

For the third consecutive year, the Dallas Area Christian Progressive Alliance will remember the teachings of Jesus on the day of his death. The theme of this year's Good Friday Walk is, "The Last Shall Be First and the First Shall Be Last." (Matthew 20:16)

Two of those who will offer meditations are Sister Patricia Ridgley of Holy Cross Catholic Church and Rev. Colleen Darraugh of MCC of Greater Dallas. Others are pending.

10:15 am:

Gather for reflection at Lakecliff Park, Colorado Avenue just east of I-35 and south of downtown Dallas; walk into downtown over the Trinity River

11:45 am

Walk ends at Ferris Plaza, intersection of Houston and Young St., downtown Dallas

The Dallas Area Christian Progressive Alliance (DACPA) was founded by grassroots Christians with a mission to live the radical love, compassion and justice of Jesus and to promote these values in religious and public discourse. DACPA provides information and education focusing on the teachings of Jesus and the Hebrew prophets, and engages the community in discussion through programs, presentations, and witness involving lay and religious leaders from various congregations and faith traditions.

SONG OF PEACE
Song of Peace

During our Easter Celebration, we will sing a "Song of Peace." We will join our voices with thousands all over the world in a musical affirmation of the importance of peace in today's world, during the month which marks the fifth anniversary of the U.S. entering Iraq.

"Dona Nobis Pacem" is a prayer for peace. As we celebrate resurrection - life over death - let us pray that peace will come to Iraq and to all the other war torn places of the world.

We will sing this prayer at both our Sunrise Service at 7:30 am and the 10 am Celebration. MCCGD is listed as a participant in the Song of Peace Project. To learn more about this project or to see where the song of peace is being sung in March, go to

MARCH 23, 2008: AN EASTER DAY TO REMEMBER

Easter is always the first Sunday after the first full moon after the Spring Equinox (which is March 20). This dating of Easter is based on the lunar calendar that Hebrew people used to identify Passover, which is why it moves around on our Roman calendar.

Based on the above, Easter can actually be one day earlier (March 22), but that is rare.

This year is the earliest Easter any of us will ever see the rest of our lives! And only the most elderly of our population have ever seen it this early (95 years old or above!). And none of us have ever, or will ever, see it a day earlier!

Here are the facts:

The next time Easter will be this early (March 23) will be the year 2228 ( 220 years from now). The last time it was this early was 1913 (so if you're 95 or older, you are the only ones that were around for that!).

The next time it will be a day earlier (March 22) will be in the year 2285 ( 277 years from now). The last time it was on March 22 was 1818. So, no one alive today has or will ever see it any earlier than this year!

Fascinating! A calendar fact worth repeating:

No one alive today has seen or will ever see an Easter date any earlier than the one we will see this year.

TOWN HALL MEETING AT YOUTH FIRST TEXAS: 03.24.08

Dallas, TX --March 13, 2008 --Murdered for being gay! Lawrence King's sexual orientation and gender expression were the reasons behind his unnecessary death on February 12, 2008. In light of this truly unfortunate event, vigils are being held everywhere to call for an end to violence and harassment directed at GLBT youth. Youth First Texas is responding to this tragedy by hosting a Town Hall Meeting for organizations and members of the community to come together and fight for the rights and safety of our youth.

Transitioning into adulthood can be awkward and lonely; throw in the confusion, embarrassment, and sometimes fear associated with a socially rejected sexual orientation, and a fair understanding of what most of the GLBTQ youth are currently experiencing will emerge. With the help of organizations like YFT, GLSEN Dallas, Out Takes Dallas, and PFLAG, as well as that of individual members of the community, we can empower, encourage, embrace, and uplift our youth through these trying times.

Any one can be a mentor, advisor, role-model, or inspiration and that is exactly what our youth need! How can you help make a difference and contribute to a force for change? Start by giving a little of your time and joining us on Monday, March 24, 2008, 7pm at Youth First Texas located at 5415 Maple Ave. Suite 225. As a community, we will share ideas, brainstorm, dialogue, and dream about how 2008 can be the safest year for the GLBTQ youth of the D/FW area.

FOR THE BIBLE TELLS ME SO SCREENING & PANEL DISCUSSION

WHEN: Friday, March 28, 2008 @ 7:30 pm

WHERE:  Community Unitarian Universalist Church

2875 East Parker Road, Plano TX 972-424-8989

The Equality Texas Foundation is pleased to announce North Texas will host a second FREE screening of Daniel Karslake's documentary film FOR THE BIBLE TELLS ME SO.Earlier this month more than 180 people attended a screening in Carrollton. All members of the community are welcome to join us in Plano.

Can the love between two people ever be an abomination?

Is the chasm separating gays and lesbians and Christianity too wide to cross?

Is the Bible an excuse to hate?Winner of the Audience Award for Best Documentary at the Seattle International Film Festival, Dan Karslakeʼs provocative, entertaining documentary brilliantly reconciles homosexuality and Biblical scripture.

Through the experiences of five very normal, very Christian, very American families -- including those of former House Majority Leader Richard Gephardt and Episcopalian Bishop Gene Robinson -- we discover how insightful people of faith handle the realization of having a gay child.

Informed by such respected voices as Bishop Desmond Tutu, Harvard's Peter Gomes, Orthodox Rabbi Steve Greenberg and Reverend Jimmy Creech; FOR THE BIBLE TELLS ME SO offers healing, clarity and understanding to anyone caught in the crosshairs of scripture and sexual identity.

Panelists who will lead a discussion following the film are: Patrick Price, Sr. Minister at Community; Jan Sullivan, Sr. Pastor of Grace Christian Church (Disciples of Christ); Dennis Hamilton, Sr. Minister at Horizon Unitarian Universalist Church; and Bob Ivancic, Social Services Director of Youth First Texas. The moderator will be Rev. Colleen Darraugh, Sr. Pastor of Metropolitan Community Church - Greater Dallas.

Event organized by Equality Texas in Partnership with Community Unitarian Universalist Church, and the Collin County Gay & Lesbian Alliance
