GOOD FRIDAY
WALK OF FAITH

For the third consecutive year, the Dallas Area Christian Progressive Alliance will remember the teachings of Jesus on the day of his death. The theme of this year's Good Friday Walk is, "The Last Shall Be First and the First Shall Be Last." (Matthew 20:16) The walk will start just south of downtown, at Lakecliff Park at Colorado and Zang. Take the Colorado exit off I-35 just south of downtown Dallas and go west on Colorado. On your right, you will pass three crosses erected near the levee of the Trinity River. Continue on to Lakecliff Park and park on the street bordering the park.

Those gathered at 10:15 am will start with words to center our thoughts, then will walk in quiet reflection across the Trinity River into downtown. We will stop at the Federal Building, pause for a moment's reflection, then walk to the final stop at Ferris Plaza across from Reunion Station, arriving around 11:30 am. Two of those who will offer meditations are Sister Patricia Ridgley of Holy Cross Catholic Church and Rev. Colleen Darraugh of MCC of Greater Dallas. Others are pending.

Can you help make this year's walk a success? We need

  • Walkers
  • Individuals to gather at the beginning and/or end of the walk
  • Drivers to carry walkers back to the start of the walk
  • Individuals to distribute flyers
  • Contributions to help pay for a banner and flyers to distribute along the way

Help make signs for the walk on Saturday, March 8, 3 pm at Northaven United Methodist Church, 11211 Preston Rd. at Northaven. To register to walk or assist, please e-mail Matthew-25@earthlink.net

or call 214/333-7577.
TOUCHSTONE: LET'S TALK

There will also be a sumptuous meal offered for a donation. Please RSVP your attendance to reserve your meal! Touchstone is a spiritual community with an intentional outreach to those under 35 yet with a welcome to everyone!

PUTTING FEET TO OUR FAITH: A MISSION PROJECT
shoes

As one practical application of our Lenten theme, we invite you to collect gently used or new running shoes to be given to the homeless. During the winter, we helped with coats, sweaters and blankets. For the spring and summer we can help with shoes as we put feet to our faith! Ask your friends, family and co-workers for their gently used running/tennis shoes or for donations of new ones. Bring your donations to the church any Sunday during Lent. Please do not bring dress shoes on this drive! Think walking shoes!

CONGRATULA-TIONS TO DAWNETTA MILLER

Congratulations to Dawnetta Miller, who has been elected as Vice-Chair of Equality Texas! They will be busy this year in strategic planning for the 2009 legislative session. Thank you Dawnetta for your work on behalf of our community!

Can the love between two people ever be an abomination? Is the chasm separating gays and lesbians and Christianity too wide to cross? Is the Bible an excuse to hate? Winner of the Audience Award for Best Documentary at the Seattle International Film Festival, Dan Karslake's provocative, entertaining documentary concisely reconciles homosexuality and a literal interpretation of Biblical scripture. In the process, the movie reveals that Church-sanctioned anti-gay bias is based almost solely upon a significant (and often malicious) misinterpretation of the Bible.

As the film notes, most Christians live their lives today without feeling obliged to kill anyone who works on the Sabbath or eats shrimp (as a literal reading of scripture dictates). Through the experiences of five very normal, very Christian, very American families - including those of former House Majority Leader Richard Gephardt and Episcopal Bishop Gene Robinson - we discover how people of faith handle, or sometimes tragically fail to handle, having an LGBT child. Informed by such respected voices as Bishop Desmond Tutu, Harvard's Peter Gomes, Orthodox Rabbi Steve Greenberg and Reverend Jimmy Creech, FOR THE BIBLE TELLS ME SO offers healing, clarity and understanding to anyone caught in the crosshairs of scripture and sexual identity.

A VIGIL IN MEMORY OF LAWRENCE KING: SUNDAY, MARCH 9, 7 PM

This Candlelight Vigil will begin at 7 pm at the Cathedral of Hope and then march to Cedar Springs. This event has been initiated by Youth First Texas and is co-sponsored by many organizations and churches including MCC of Greater Dallas.

ATTENTION EXCEL ALUMNI

After several years EXCEL has been revived in North Texas.  This is an international movement and the name of the local group is EXCEL of The Rising Starz.  We are starting our planning sessions for our first retreat, which will probably be in the spring of 2009.  All EXCEL Alumni are invited to become a part of the Team.  If you have a deep desire to serve and are willing to commit to at least one Saturday a month, we would love to have you join us.  We meet alternating months at Promise MCC and MCC of Greater Dallas.  Please contact Alex Alexander at

alexolddog@yahoo.com for more information.  We need to lock in dates for this first retreat so we need to have your commitment by April.
DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME BEGINS, SUN., MARCH 9, 2 AM
We would hate for you to miss worshipping with us on Sunday, March 9, so we're reminding you to set your clocks forward one hour before you go to sleep on Saturday night. Yes, you will lose an hour of sleep, but you'll feel revitalized when you join us for worship at 10:00 AM!

THIRD DAY CONCERT AND RANGERS GAME, - SAT., AUGUST 12

Third Day

Influenced by the Southern rock of Lynyrd Skynyrd and other artists such as U2 and Rich Mullins,

Christian rock band Third Day has produced 12 albums, garnered seven Dove Awards and three Grammy Awards. Third Day's tendency to dwell on matters of faith and relationship with God has served to create an ever-present, underlying sense of worship in their songs that audiences have been quick to connect with.

Be inspired by Third Day in a lawn concert and then share in the fun of a baseball game between the Texas Rangers and the Toronto Blue Jays, all at The Ballpark in Arlington and all for $15! This event is being promoted by "Touchstone", a youth outreach of MCCGD, and is open to everyone. Purchase your ticket ASAP. They will go quickly! (Contact office@mccgd.org or call 972-243-0761)

Join us on Sundays at 10 am for worship and Wednesdays at 7 pm for our Wednesday Night Dialogue.
