CSS Weekend Reflections Newsletter by Confidential Search Solutions

Greetings!
   TJ's Headshot
Happy 4th of July!  We will all benefit from an extra day off on Monday right?  Well, not quite.  There are many people who work 24/7.  In fact if you need groceries, some stores are open 24 hours a day, every day.  If you need a pharmacy or an emergency room, people will be there to assist you.  If you have a loved one in a nursing home or in jail, there are people working.  If you need gas, a flight out of town, a cruise ship, or even a cab, you will be thankful that people are working and are on time to serve you.  As you enjoy your time off, keep in mind there are many who are not working or just received layoff notices within the last 30 days.  Regardless of your situation, take a moment to be thankful for what you have and not resentful for what you do not have.  If you have to work, be thankful for your job.  If you are unemployed, be thankful for the service of others you will receive daily.  If you have the day off, be thankful for the opportunity.  In all things, give thanks and it will give others a reasons to be thankful for your positive outlook on life.

This holiday weekend, while sitting in Arlington, Texas with my mother and father-in-law, I am thankful for my father-in-law's doctors and medical attendees who provided critical care for him this week as he underwent major surgery.  I am thankful for all healthcare professionals and their many years spent in medical and trade schools along with the countless hours spent working around the clock in the hospitals and clinics.  Likewise, I am thankful for the men and women who fought to give us the freedom we enjoy today as we celebrate the Declaration of Independence of our country this weekend as American citizens.  Life is full of blessings.

What are you thankful for this day?  We at CSS are thankful for all of you!  Again, have a wonderful holiday.

Respectfully,

Employment Trends Updates for Work Week Ending July 1, 2011

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, released by the Department of Labor, "The Employment Situation for June 2011 is scheduled to be released on July 8, 2011, at 8:30 A.M. Eastern Time."  We will send out a special report with updated information next weekend.  In the meantime, check out their website to find more employment facts and statistics.

One interesting fact to note based on year-over-year performance results is, the city of Olmsted, Minnesota had the largest increase in average wages in 2010.  The increase was a whopping 31.9%!  Can you believe it?  Consequently, if you were making $10/hour or $100/hour, your new hourly rate would have jumped on average to $13.20/hour or $131.90/hour respectfully.

If you are a hiring manager, now is the time to review your management style and watch the employment trends.  As the market begins to improve, more employees are beginning to confidentially look for new opportunities.  How you treat your employees has a direct affect on their job satisfaction and your company's turnover ratios.  Employees are beginning to understand, they have to look out for their personal and professional best interest, as employers make like kind of decisions for their business and financial best interests.

Continue to watch the trends.  There is a war going on for talent and it will continue to expand as Baby Boomers continue to leave the work force. Prepare now to compete successfully with technical upgrades, career development training for your staff, and career guidance and coaching for you.  The best time to take action is now.

Have a Fabulous Holiday Weekend!

"How Socially Connected Are You?"

Mary Barrera, HR Manager

Congratulations to May Barrera, HR Manager at Bay Valley Foods.  She won two Santikos movie tickets when she responded to our new CSS Social Networking Question of the Month posted on LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter.

Mary provided more answers to the question,

" Why do HR and Hiring Managers Use Outside Recruiters?"  Mary responded with the following four reasons:

  1. Recruiting is time consuming
  2. Recruiting is expensive
  3. Some of the best candidates are employed
  4. Some candidates like to keep their search confidential
Some other answers given by participants on Facebook and LinkedIn included:
  1. To extend their recruiting reach
  2. To access executive recruiters database of contacts
  3. For their expertise and their network
  4. To access a greater pool of diverse applicants
  5. Need to replace someone confidentially without other staff knowing
  6. Gain access to professionals who are passively looking
Hiring managers like Mary, know they need to be well connected socially, professionally, and personally to provide their employers with plenty of options to identify the right person from a variety of resources.

Look out for July's Hiring Manager's Social Media Question for the month. The more hiring managers are socially connected to the right people and the right executive recruiters, the more successful they are in establishing a productive workforce.

"Summer is a Great Time to Attend Functions..."

Featured Article from the Career Advisor on our CSS Online Career Portal

June 28, 2011 - "Summer is a great time to attend functions that are free. This may include parades, picnics, firework displays and other outside activities. The worst thing you could do right now is throw your hands up and stay at home because you are upset that you don't have a job.   You never know who you might meet. You never know who could open a door for you to a hiring authority. It's important to keep your spirits up which often occurs when you get out of the house and interact with people. It's also important to come across POSITIVE, not negative or depressed. You will obtain more referrals if someone feels you present yourself well.  For those of you in the US, the three day July 4th Holiday is the perfect time to get out and NETWORK. You might even want to volunteer to work on a parade or at a festival in order to force yourself to mingle with others. Your next employer could be sitting right next to you at one of these events.

 Special Interview

A Special Interview with Darryl Baker, VP of Federal & Government Solutions at Confidential Search Solutions
Darryl Baker

1.Why are you an executive recruiter/headhunter?

Being a recruiter/headhunter allows me to be fully engaged daily with a different agenda/purpose. I enjoy learning and experiencing the challenges that come with this industry. Performing the same tasks day in and day out would not satisfy my need for job satisfaction. This role allows me to be inquisitive, resourceful, engaging and independent.

2.What consistent qualifications or qualities do you look for when you are recruiting for your clients?

First, to ensure that those candidates that I present are meeting the needs of the clients and that the candidates are truly interested in the position and not just browsing for opportunities. Secondly, that their desire to move to another role is not solely based on monetary gains being offered by the client. Lastly, that they are the right fit (culturally) for this opportunity.

3.What Makes CSS Different in the market place?

We honestly do our due diligence in setting both the client and candidate up for success. We don't think of just the numbers or fills (although important for business success), we want to sustain the relationship(s) for long term. All of us bring forth talents that are commendable for the success of CSS within this industry. We are here because we want to be and really enjoy creating the matches necessary to make both the clients & candidates satisfied in choosing CSS for their staffing and employment needs.
