CSS Weekend Reflections Newsletter by Confidential Search Solutions

Greetings!
   TJ's Headshot
We are excited about our continuous growth and improvements as we aim to meet the growing needs of our expanding clientele.  All of our recruiters are hunting daily for the right candidate experience and qualifications to meet the needs of our clients' open positions and corporate culture.

We wish to congratulate one of our recruiters, Mark Douglas, on his two most recent six figure placements this week.  One of his placements was a local psychiatrist to meet the specific needs of a Bexar County medical clinic.

As a result of our increased job orders, we have added two additional Senior Business Partners.  We are excited to welcome and introduce to you Ms. Patsy Foxworth and Ms. Kathy Swanson.  Like each member of our team, they too will offer our clients our unique CSS Triangular Perspective from their Fortune 500 industry experience, small business industry experience, and executive recruiting experience.

While many exciting things are happening here at CSS, we want to pause for a moment to send our thoughts, prayers, and condolences out to the many families impacted by the multiplicity of tornados and storms sweeping across the country.   While many of us do not live in the direct path of these most recent destruction areas, we may have family members and friends of family members directly affected by these unexpected events.  Therefore,  let us continue to look for ways to help ease another person's load.  For more information about how you can help, take a moment to read a brief article by USNews.com with specific information on approved charities to support.  To quickly give a $10 text donation via your mobile device, simply text the RED CROSS at 90999 or the SALVATION ARMY at 80888.  You can give as often as you would like to make a donation.

We appreciate your support and always look for ways to let you know CSS is a company that cares.

Have a great weekend!

Respectfully,

Employment Trends Updates for Work Week Ending

June 3, 2011

According to June 3, 2011, Friday's Washington Post article, only 54,000 new jobs were added in May.  According to the article, this was the lowest increase in eight months in contrast to more than 220,000 new jobs added in each of the previous three months.  While the unemployment rate rose slightly up to 9.1% from 9% in May, the overall outlook is still good, it is just a lot slower than anticipated.  Many economist felt the tornados and other natural disasters played a significant role in the slow down.  This may be true; however, regardless of the reasons, we must make the best of our given situations and not lose hope.

As we have stated in previous messages, we are personally seeing an increase in recruiting activity and job growth since December 2010.  Therefore, we feel quite confident the market is on course for a steady recovery.  Keep positive and prepare for the best by doing what you can do to position yourself in a favorable light.  Continue to strive for excellence in all you do.

If you want professional assistance to help prepare you for your next career move or major decisions, give us a call before you take action.  Our career coaching team are simply the best.  Here is what one recently Retired Air Force Colonel said about our coaching service, "Much thanks for the discussions we've had and the resources of your company's web site...they certainly helped during my job search process."  We offer hourly, monthly and quarterly coaching and outplacement services custom designed for you.  With our confidential approach, only you will know that you used a coach.

Have a Great Weekend!

"The Dirty Dozen Causes of Management Failure"

How to Run Your Business by the Book

According to Chapter 5, "How to Overcome the Number One Cause of Management Failure" in the book,

How to Run Your Business by The Book,

by Dave Anderson, their are 12 primary reasons managers have trouble managing people.

The list includes the following:

  1. Failing to build a team and becoming overwhelmed
  2. Perpetual plateau as a result of becoming unteachable
  3. High turnover within a department (with pride being the culprit reason)
  4. Low morale due to lack of positive reinforcement
  5. Distrust from employees because of character issues like failing to admit mistakes
  6. Unwillingness to listen to others or involve them in decision making processes.
  7. Failing to seek out feedback and make behavioral adjustments
  8. Becoming selfish and territorial
  9. Putting your own agenda ahead of the team's
  10. Failing to accept responsibilities for your actions and results
  11. A variety of character flaws
  12. Becoming isolated and out of touch

According to the Book, "Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others." (Phil 2:3-4)

Most of our career coaching clients in management can personally relate to one or more of the above situations.  When deadlines, reporting requirements, and employee issues consume your day before you begin your scheduled tasks, it becomes easier for you to isolate yourself or think selfishly about your personal agenda.  However, what you feel like doing may not be what is best for you.

Take the time to step back and read a good management training book each week/month to refresh your mind or take a refresher management course at least once per year. Remember, take care of your people and amazingly they will ultimately take care of you.  Regroup, refocus, and renew your commitment to become the best manager you can be starting today.

Follow Up is Critical

Featured Article from Career Advisor via CSS Online Career Portal Service

"There are numerous times throughout your job search that provide opportunities for you to follow up.  Think for a moment about the calls you return, the email messages you read or the mail you open. That will help you know WHAT message to leave and what email or mail to send.

CALLS THAT WILL BE RETURNED  If your follow up call is asking for a "status report" or an "update", chances are you will not receive a returned call.  Often hiring authorities have NOT reached a decision and have no time to provide updates to everyone they have interviewed.  However, if you call and OFFER MORE INFORMATION, you may greatly enhance your chances of being called back.  You need to show the hiring authority the BENEFIT they will enjoy by calling you.  Make sure you leave the phone number you will answer - more than likely your cell phone number.

EMAIL MESSAGES THAT WILL BE READ  The subject line is the most important part of your email.  Choose a subject line that shows the individual receiving the email why it benefits them to open your email.  You don't have to limit a subject line to two or three words. Think of a subject line that you would open and use that!

MAIL THAT WILL BE OPENED AND READ  Sending your follow up by mail dramatically increases the chances of your mail being read. Hand write the envelope and write "Personal & Confidential" in the lower left hand corner of the envelope. This decreases the chances of a secretary or assistant opening the envelope and sending your information to the HR Department.  Make sure you have the correct name and spelling of the person you are addressing as well as their title.  Remember, anything you send in writing is forming their opinion of your written communication skills."
