Friday Factoids & Weekend Reflections Newsletter by CSS

Greetings!

TJ's HeadshotHappy Friday!  Can you believe we are in the last month of the first quarter in 2011.  What a difference one year can make.  This time last year over 14.5 million people were unemployed.  As of January 2011, the unemployment rate began to decline and more new jobs are being created.

According to March 4th edition of the Wall Street Journal online. "The unemployment rate, which is obtained from a separate household survey, fell to 8.9% last month, the first time it dipped below 9% since April 2009 and a substantial decline from November's 9.8%. Still, there are about 13.67 million people who would like to work can't get a job." Click here to see the full report.

Locally, we are seeing an increase in job orders and client activity.  However, employers are still cautious and some are actually planning additional layoffs.  So what can you do besides hope and pray?  Well, you can register on our Career Portal.  It will save you time and money going in and out of multiple job boards.  We have combined over 1,000 online websites and webpages with jobs listed into one career portal.  Also we give you fresh new articles, webinars, and videos to access every week.  It is just one of many ways we look out for you.

As a hiring official, make sure you take the time to assess potential employees at least two to three different ways before you make an offer.  Too many times, managers can make quick decisions to hire someone for a vacant position to later regret their hasty decision.

One recommendation we suggest is to telephone screen and physcially meet the person you interview.  A telephone conversation gives you another perspective of a person that is often missed in a physcial interview.  If in doubt, pass on the candidate.  There are too many professionals to select from to make a poor decision.  If you need any help with the hiring process, call us.  It is another way, we look out for you.

Respectfully,

Weekend Reflections
Do Not Put Off Tomorrow What You Can Do Today

Are you always on the go and too busy to do what you need to do?  The above concept has been around for centuries in scholarly books, biblical text, and many grandmothers' kitchen conversations.  Today is the best day to do what you need to do.  We know it intellectually.  Why?  Because it makes sense and because of the following five simple reasons:
  • Tomorrow is not promised
  • You may forget what you intended to do tomorrow
  • The opportunity may no longer exist tomorrow
  • You may get sick tomorrow
  • Your family may have a crisis tomorrow
There are so many other reasons but the above five are always a strong  possibility.  In our business, we often talk with professionals who are disheartened because they were passed over for promotions.  However, at the end of the day, when their records were reviewed, they were often not as qualified as they thought because they put off doing the things they should have done, but did not do.

Start today implementing a better you.  Become known as the "new me."  If you used to procrastinate, stop it!  Begin taking charge of your life today.  If you used to be messy, stop it!  It is time to clean up and become more organized.  Stop settling for less in your professional and personal life.  Make the most of your time you have been blessed to receive and let's meet the "new you" you are destined to become.

Enjoy Your Weekend Everyone!

Integrity Rules!

Decisions

Integrity Rules!

Fact:  An employer was looking to hire a very high profile government contract specialist with a secret security clearance.  The employer preferred a four year degree but it was not required.  A recruiting firm used presented highly competitive candidates with great credentials and verifiable references.  The client was happy and made an offer to one of their candidates.

Dilemma:  The candidate selected for the position lied about having her degree.  She created a bogus document with all of the appearances of a diploma from a nationally known, reputable school.  The client loved her performance and recognized her as one of their best hires.

After the guarantee period of 90 days, within the employee's first year, the employer conducted a random degree verification check on all departments within their company.  The employee's degree was identified as questionable and the recruiting firm used was contacted.  What do you think happened?

Outcome: The recruiting firm produced a copy of the degree given when they met with their candidate.  It appeared legit.  However, they also went one step further and called the registrar's office at the university to double check the diploma in question.  Sure enough, the university verified the facts.  The candidate had completed all courses required for the four-year degree.  However, she did not complete her final project and therefore, she did not have a degree from their university.  Amazing!

Summary:  Integrity rules.  The candidate was fired and the recruiting firm offered to replace the candidate for no additional cost with no questions asked.  They refilled the position with another great candidate and the client began to use them exclusively.

Because the candidate lacked integrity, she was fired.  Because the recruiting firm demonstrated integrity, they grew their business.  If you are an employee, always tell the truth.  If you are an employer, always use reputable firms who will take care of you in questionable situations.  If you are shocked by this story, it is because these situations do not happen often.  However, when they do, remember, integrity rules!

Have a Wonderful Day!
