Weekend Reflections Newsletter by CSS
Greetings!

TJ's HeadshotHappy New Year!  2011 is finally here and new year's resolutions are being made everywhere.  Plans are being implemented, budgets are being finalized, companies are beginning to hire, and revenue generating strategies are being established for businesses nationwide.  While numbers are being calculated, more hopes and dreams are being generated as strangers continue to express good will to each other with the following three words"Happy New Year!

We at CSS recommend five things for working professionals to do this year to improve your overall career.  Regardless if you are an executive or an entry level college graduate, the suggestions will benefit you.

Our five recommendations are:
  1. Eliminate stinking thinking and incorporate an attitude of gratitude immediately

  2. Eat healthy and balanced meals each day and enjoy at least one fun treat per week to celebrate life
  3. Exercise regularly and make it fun (Jazzercise, Kickboxing, golfing, yoga, cycling, etc.)
  4. Read a good book (not work related) each month
  5. Give one extra hour dedicated exclusively to your family each week without any interruptions from co-workers and friends

2011 is going to be an amazing year.  Begin now preparing to give and receive.  Have a wonderful and productive New Year!

Respectfully,

TJ Haygood & The Entire CSS Team

What You Think About You Bring About
By TJ Haygood

"What YOU think about is what YOU bring about," was one of my mother's favorite sayings when we were growing up as young adults building families of our own.  She stressed to us and everyone she met, the power and influence of both written and spoken words and their lasting affects on one's life. She was a gatekeeper of all things negative influencing our lives and our children's lives because she wanted the best for her expanding family. As I reflect on those lessons learned this holiday season while my parents were visiting from Michigan, I began to think about how every professional thing we do are direct results of our thinking.

It is amazing how quickly we rise early or go to bed late to plan for the next business day, weekly meeting, quarterly conference, training session, or countless financial reports.  While all of those things are important, it is most important to think about how we process the things we do through the external and internal words we use that begin with our thoughts.

It all reminded me of the newly coined phrase, "thought leadership " that was initiated in the early 90s by Joel Kurzman, editor-in-chief of Booz Allen Hamilton's magazine, "Strategy and Business".  According to Wikipedia, the definition can be applied to a company that integrates professional ethics with professional development.

Whether you call it "thought leadership" or one of TJ's mom's favorite sayings, take every word captive.  Intentionally season your words with words of integrity and congruent thoughts that will empower others to perform better because of your influence and leadership.  You can make a difference.
