Greetings!
Season's greetings and Happy Thanksgiving is right around the corner. In fact, the next time you receive our monthly newsletter, Thanksgiving will be history and December will be the month we are celebrating. How quickly time flies when one is waiting to hear if they got the new job or if they were accepted into undergraduate or graduate school.
With the unemployment rate still hovering around 9.6% on average, there is still more we can do to help those who have not found the right opportunity. Take the time to mentor an unemployed professional or give them a job lead when you hear of opportunities. While you may not be able to personally recommend them or send in their resume to your hiring manager, you may be able to give them some insight on how they can better increase their chances of finding a job. Let's work together helping people get back to work. Helping people is one way we can start our Thanksgiving celebration early. We can begin by showing an attitude of gratitude to others we work and/or live with. It will create a more enjoyable work and home environment for all of us. Make the most of the time we have now, because things can always get worst at the most inconvenient time. If you are still looking for a job and have not registered for our Career Portal , we highly recommend registering today. It will give you access to over 1,000 online job boards, saving you time from going in and out of multiple websites, and entering multiple user names and passwords. For those who need some additional assistance working for difficult managers or working with unmotivated and unhappy employees, we have a group of career coaches who are available to help you. Call for your free initial consultation. Remember, we are here to look out for you. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
Respectfully,
TJ Haygood, CPC Founder & CEO |

Is Paid Time Off A Right Or A Privilege?
As the holidays approach us and Monday night football season is upon us, is it appropriate to take personal paid time off, if it is not convenience for your employer? This question has some very strong opinions on both sides. On one hand, some employees believe it is their right to take vacation and/or annual paid time off (PTO) whenever they want to, because it is "their accumulated personal time earned." On the other hand, others believe it is okay to take time off if it is not an inconvenience to the employer; therefore, agreeing that companies have the right to approve or deny leave request.
Interestingly enough, according to the Fair Labor Standards Act, employers are not required to "pay" for any vacation, personal, holiday, or sick leave, with the exception of government contractors that fall under the Davis-Bacon and Related Acts. No way, you may say. That cannot be true, you may stew. Well my dear reader, it is a fact. Check out the following information on the United States Department of Labor website for a more exhaustive reading on the topic. As stated, technically, an employer does not have to pay any employee for personal leave, regardless of the reasons why. It is actually the generosity of the owners or shareholders of a company to offer "paid time off." Therefore, since it is an employer's decision to offer paid leave, it is their right to approve or deny the timing of that leave. From All of Us at Confidential Search Solutions

Friday Factoids
What's New at CSS?
- Because of your support, Confidential Search Solutions exceeded our 2010 fundraising goal of $1000 for the American Heart Association. Thank you! We will walk tomorrow in the annual HeartWalk at Brackenridge Park with an amazing feeling of success, knowing we have a group of clients, candidates, family members, and other supporters in our trade associations and memberships who helped us reach our goal and are helping families live healthier lives. Thank you once again!
Charlie Lewis, owner of Legacy Office Centers, is the random winner of two plaza level San Antonio Spurs' tickets for being the one selected from the pool of donors who contributed to our American Heart Association fundraiser. Thank you Charlie and all who supported us this year. - We are half-way through the process of getting our logo trademarked. It is so exciting. As we come to the end of our first calendar year in business and approach our 2nd year in May, we want to make sure we do what is necessary and foundational right both legally and accounting wise. As a result of our continued growth, we have selected our first corporate law office of Adorno Yoss White & Wiggins out of Dallas, TX to retain.
- As a direct hire specialty firm, we have recently expanded our temp services with both local and national clients resulting in a win/win for everyone. It is exciting to know we are small enough to adapt quickly to the customized needs of our clients and resourceful enough to work outside of Texas and across the country with our affiliate relationships.
- A new division is coming soon and we can't wait until it happens. Because of confidential reasons we cannot tell you what it is until all of our legal documents are complete. We are positioning ourselves to be around for a long time and this new division will help us build the right foundation to reach that goal.
We at Confidential Search Solutions are excited about so many things including our affiliated relationships who are committed to helping us meet the growing needs of our larger clients. Additionally, we have over 400 affiliate member firms through NPA Worldwide Recruiting Network that has created an amazing resource for us.
In a world that is getting smaller every day, we are finding at CSS that collaborative relationships are definitely critical to our continued success. We encourage you to make the most of your collaborative relationships at work on your job, in the community where you live, and at home where you are among your family and friends. These relationships can help sustain you when needed in so many tangible and intangible ways. Nurture them and be thankful for them. By doing so, you put yourself and your professional and personal relationships in a more powerful place to reach your dreams. Happy Friday Everyone! From All of Us at Confidential Search Solutions
