Small LogoHappy Friday!

Greetings!

Brian ShumakerAre you an employer or employee who likes to stay abreast of the changes going on in the world of hiring practices and activities in the market place?  If so, make sure you register on our CSS Online Career Portal to receive our weekly Career Advisor newsletter.  It will formally replace our weekly Friday Factoid and Weekend Reflections Newsletter next week.  However, it only goes to those who are registered on the Career Portal.  Our Friday Factoid and Weekend Reflections Newsletter will officially become a monthly newsletter in August.

Here are some of the topics that were in this week's Career Advisor highlighted in blue:

HOT TOPIC
Starting today, don't listen to, watch or read the news. It's important for you to realize that "good news" does not sell advertising or attract audiences.  The job market is beginning to turn around and many companies are hiring. In the past 12 months, many companies cut too many jobs and now it is negatively impacting their profits. You need to expect to succeed and focus on the companies who are doing well. You also need to ignore the "noise" in your life. Often family and friends do not mean to be negative, but their comments can really bring you down. Make a conscious effort to ignore negative comments from people as much as possible. Surround yourself with positive people, network with individuals in your targeted field and wake up each morning ready to schedule another interview or accept a job offer!

MUST READS
Before you fill out another job application, read the short article in the Interviewing folder of the Library that will give you advice on how to handle your salary requirement. The title of the article is "What are Your Salary Requirements?"

FREE JOB SEEKER WEBINARS
"Our last Webinar covered the topic "What Should You Take to an Interview."  Participants on that call sent the following comments following the training:

==> "I learned things I've never thought of before"
==> "I love your suggestion to tell people I'm a free agent on the open job market"
==> "This information was extremely helpful"
==> "I have an interview tomorrow and now I know exactly what to take with me to stand out"
==> "Thank you for giving me answers to questions that have really hindered my search efforts"
==> "These weekly calls have resulted in me now having three final interviews in the next week - you're the best."

If you are having any problems in your search for a new job, present them to our trainer to hear possible solutions. If you have questions, you will get answers! Visit the Calendar in our Career Portal and register for the free upcoming calls. If you can't attend the live webinar, you can login to our Career Portal within five days from the scheduled date of the training to access the handouts and the recorded webinar."

Enjoy your weekend everyone!

Respectfully,

Four Little Lessons We Can Learn from a Seed?
By: TJ Haygood

Lessons from a seed to think about and reflect on this weekend:

1.  A seed can grow to become something more of value but not without the help of sunlight, soil, and water.

2.  A seed can be planted by anyone educated, uneducated, little, big, kind, or mean but still grows up to become a very special and beautiful flower or a very special and desirable shade tree.

3.  A seed can grow from the efforts of someone who believes the seed has the ability to grow and therefore takes the time to invest in it by planting, watering, and/or cultivating it.

4.  Some seeds travel to unfamiliar places by the wind and grow where it is planted with very little assistance from others.

Like seeds, we can grow to become more valuable to our families, friends, and employers with the help from others.  Like a seed we can become very special regardless if our parents were kind, mean, educated or not.  Like a seed, we need those who believe in us and are willing to invest a little time to help us grow.  Like a seed some of us can grow to become productive wherever we are planted regardless of what is going on in the world around us.

Take the time this weekend to thank those who have helped you to grow and those who are still investing in you today as you continue to grow.

Have a great weekend!  Be safe and be thankful.
