Small LogoHappy Friday!

Greetings!

Brian ShumakerDo you remember the temper tantrums at two, teenage hormonal fits at 16, and drinking binges at 21?  Of course not you or your kids, those "other people" right?  Those are common behaviors at various ages people go through when they do not get their way or when they want more independence.

Take the time to think before acting if you do not get your way this 4th of July, Independence Day weekend.  Try not to throw a tantrum or allow your emotions to get out of control.  It can spoil an enjoyable weekend with family and friends.  One does not have to have their way in order to have a good time.

Be safe and enjoy the extra time with loved ones as you enjoy your favorite toppings on your hot dogs, hamburgers, ribs, etc.  Even if you spill the ketchup all over your white shirt or the neighbors' kid squirts mustard on your new sun-dress, learn to let it go and laugh it off.  Be a good sport.  Re-energize your body, mind, and spirit and just have fun!
Enjoy your holiday weekend everyone!
Respectfully,
TJ Haygood, Founder & CEO

What Does it All Mean?

DefeatAccording to the Huffington Post and the U.S. Labor Department, the unemployment rate is now 9.5%, down from 9.7% last month.  Additionally, a total of 125,000 jobs were cut last month (which includes 225,000 census workers who are no longer employed).  There was also a total of 83,000 new jobs (net) that were created by private businesses, making it six months in a row of "private sector job gains."  To some this is really good news and to others, it is not good enough.

Factually, there are too many people still unemployed and there is great uncertainty about our national and global economy.  In spite of the

daily reminders of the devastating effects of the BP oil spill, hurricanes in the coastal regions, tornadoes in the central and midwestern states, etc., there are still plenty reasons to be thankful this holiday weekend.

Just remember, even if you are unemployed, if you have a place to stay and food to eat with clothes on your back, then you too should be thankful for  those provisions.  If you are unemployed and about to file bankruptcy, you still can be thankful that you are going through this tough situation in the United States of America, where there are citizens, family members, friends,and/or community for-profit and non-profit groups who are more than willing to help you through this difficult period.  In spite of your situation, it could be worse.

We live in a great country, in spite of our problems and differences.  If you need to be reminded, just ask a military member who is willing to give her or his life for our freedom.  Let us be thankful and help others to do the same by giving our time and resources when in need.

Enjoy your weekend!

Weekend Reflections
It is That Simple

DefeatWhile at the Omni Hotel last night sitting next to my husband as he presented over 20 awards to the new United States Air Force Non-commissioned Officer Academy graduates, I asked a Sergeant, "what would it take for you to get promoted to Chief Master Sergeant?"  He replied, "It takes a lot of studying ma'am."  As I reflected on the simplicity of his answer, I remembered asking a similar question to a dear friend when she was in her final leg of her doctoral degree program.  She too answered the question with the words, "it takes pure determination and a lot of "studying" to complete a doctorate degree.

Have you asked yourself recently what it takes to be successful in your chosen career field or academic endeavors?  If you thought about it long enough, the answer is really simple.  It takes pure determination and a lot of study.  Yes, we know it takes professionalism, sometimes knowing the right people, having the right experience, etc.  However, let's not ever underestimate the simple task but often boring and time consuming requirement to study to show ourselves worthy of the goal.  Know your business, your product and/or service, your customers, your target market, your strengths, your weaknesses.  Study them, understand them, and grow from it.  It really is that simple.
