Friday Factoid #1 for Employers: Think Globally Not Locally
Continuing education has often been a luxury for some and a requirement for others. However, in a competitive global economy, obtaining additional skills, certifications, and education is definitely considered more favorably than ever before. Companies today are forced to compete globally, and need more leaders who understand the value of keeping themselves competitively ready to navigate through this turbulent business terrain.
If your company needs to upgrade their old MRP systems to the latest versions of Oracle or SAP, or their telecommunication systems from 3G to a 4G platform, do not resist the change. Be one of the first to embrace it, and help your people do the same. Do not be the one to complain. With or without you, the company has to move forward to survive.
All companies need managers who are willing to learn the new cutting edge technologies and make an investment in themselves, to survive and thrive. The more you learn, the more you have the potential to earn. The more you know, the more valuable you become to your company and other organizations in the market place. It is no longer wise to think locally, it is time now, to think globally as a chosen manager and leader within your industry.

Friday Factoid #2 for Employees: Communication is More Than Words

When you think about the word "memory", what do you think about? Did you think about computer memory or mental capabilities? Let's try another one, when you think of "excel", what comes to mind? Did you think of a software program or a person's achievement? Ok, just one more, when you think about "chips", did you think about microchips or potato chips? Depending on your experience, those three little words have some very distinct meanings. As we advance in technology and in our global experiences, there could be more words that will challenge our ability to relate to one another. Sometimes these occasional disconnects can be the cause of great frustration and impatience. We have to make deliberate attempts to better manage those situations.
As a valuable employee to your organization, make it your personal policy to practice positive and clear communication. If there is a possibility that your email or personal conversations could be received in a less than desirable manner, be the first to address it and apologize for any confusion. If your communication skills are weak, take some online classes or get personal assistance or a tutor to help you. Do whatever it takes to secure your job. Effective communication skills are beneficial to the organization. Many managers make daily decisions to hire, fire, or promote people because of their communication skills. Being able to foster positive relationships through helpful and professional communication can help you advance in your career. Make the most of your day and choose your words wisely.

| Weekend Reflection #1:
The Influence of Politics at Work
Liberals, conservatives, CNN, and Fox News are major conversational topics in boardrooms and restrooms at work. Then, there are more heated political discussions all over the radio and television airwaves. Regardless of your political affiliation, sometimes we can be tempted to engage in unhealthy conversations when we have strong political opinions.
How do you balance those conflicting perspectives in the workplace? Do you jump in full force? Do you casually share your thoughts? There are many great lessons we can learn from married political couples who have very strongly opposing views, but have the capacity to like and respect the other person.
As employees within any organization, it is our personal responsibility to treat our fellow employees in such a way, that it does not disrupt or hinder any productivity or creativity for the employer and their other employees. We have to be mature and professional enough to leave our personal opinions at the door for the common good of our employers.
Be the first to practice humility instead of haughtiness, respect instead of distrust, and consideration instead of frustration. It is such a blessing to an organization to have co-workers who genuinely get along. The day goes by faster, and morale is much higher.

Weekend Reflections #2:
Please stop for a moment of silence to think about and/or wish the best for the safety of our military members, especially those stationed overseas. These men and women from all 50 states and many foreign countries are serving 24/7.
We are blessed to have the greatest military support in the world. In addition to wartime duties and assignments, the military helps to reduce our threat of daily attacks against our security systems. Our troops deserve our highest level of respect and honor for all who have served and are currently serving.
We Recognize You!
This week we would like to take a moment to recognize Mr. Jose Martinez, an Army E-3 from San Antonio, Texas. Our thoughts and prayers are with you, Jose. We at CSS and our distribution members salute you!
If you have an American Military family member or friend you would like for us to recognize, please send his or her name, rank, branch of service, and home town to: TJHaygood@ConfidentialSS.com. Have a wonderful and blessed weekend.
