Welcome to Confidential Search Solutions' Friday Factoids & Weekend Reflections
Greetings!
Recently, winter blizzards caused power outages and missed flights for thousands on the east coast. Additionally, mudslide destruction caused evacuations and home losses for hundreds on the west coast. Yet, the opportunity to celebrate humanity becomes more apparent and powerful in times of great fear, disaster, and ruin. In times of despair, there are those who rise to the occasion to be a blessing to others.
Similarly, in our work environments, disaster happens, contracts are lost, accounts are destroyed, and reports are delayed at various times. It is at those very moments, many unsung heroes will rise to the occasion to restore our hope in ourselves and a greater appreciation for humanity. As you settle into your weekend routines and pre-scheduled activities, take a moment to reflect on the people you are most thankful for. Let them know how much you appreciate them, like we appreciate you. Thank you for being a part of our success. Have a great weekend everyone.
Respectfully, TJ Haygood, Founder & CEO

Friday Factoid #1 for Employers: "Developing a Productive Team"
Stephen Schiffman is one of the top sales trainers in the country having trained over 500,000 sales people for companies like AT&T and Motorola. One of his eight foundation principles of effective negotiating is "you must be able to identify an outcome that both sides will recognize as fair". In other words, it needs to be a win/win situation for both parties.
This same principle can be applied to motivating and managing staff in any functional area. Supervisors and managers who apply this negotiating principle of developing a win/win situation for their employees can develop a highly effective and productive team. The managers rapport with their staff is the number one reason why employees stay and leave organizations. You can reduce your department turnover ratio by making your department a mutually beneficial environment for you and your staff.

Friday Factoid #2 for Employees: Promotional Opportunities Are Not for you!
Alert! Promotional opportunities are not for employees they are for employers. That is right. When you think you are ready for a promotion, your employer may not agree. It may have nothing to do with your performance abilities, but everything to do with the company's desire to maximize your expertise.
There are times when employers may elect to keep people from being promoted. One reason is because they may not have a replacement to do the same quality work they have become dependent on you to do. Therefore, without a replacement, they may elect not to promote you. So what can you do? Help train or find a replacement in order to move up or move out. Either way, the decision has to be in the best interest of the company for the company to promote you.

| Weekend Reflection #1:
Dealing with Jealousy Issues at Work
Are you a hardworking, dedicated, and highly motivated employee who is often praised by your manager? If so, then you have probably faced some jealousy issues or been accused of being too assertive, too aggressive, too kind, too helpful, etc. Often times, when unproductive people are around productive ones, the little emotion of jealousy can develop without any awareness that it is the real issue.
Therefore, when you are confronted with jealous or negative comments by a fellow co-worker, do not take it personally. The problem is not you. Jealousy often appears when people feel insecure about themselves or their work quality. Continue to do a great job, be kind to and considerate of others, offer to help them if they need it, and remind them that you are there to do the best job you can do and they can do so too.
If you are a manager that tends to show favoritism to one or more people, we would encourage you to consider other ways to reward great performance. Look for ways and reasons to compliment your entire staff. It will help lessen jealousy issues in the work place. There is always more recognition managers can give.
Enjoy your weekend everyone!

Weekend Reflections #2:
Sleeping Less Does Not Equate to Doing More...
With all of the conveniences of modern day society, such as computers, microwaves, satellite TV, and MP3 players, one would think we should have more time on our hands to relax and live more peacefully. In actuality we seem to be more stressed and less refreshed than ever before. While we are rushing around to accomplish the things we have convinced ourselves are important, we are failing to do some of the basic things that we need to do to take better care of ourselves, like sleep.
According to www.Sleep-Deprivation.com, not getting enough sleep at night can lead to both mental and physical exhaustion and health disorders. Some of the negative consequences of sleep deprivation are a reduction in ones' "ability to think, handle stress, maintain a healthy immune system, and moderate emotions". Therefore, sleeping less does not equate to doing more. Give yourself permission to get an adequate amount of sleep this weekend and each day. You may find that you can be more creative, productive, and more pleasant to be around with less health consequences. Take the time to enjoy your weekend everyone and get some sleep!
