Welcome to Confidential Search Solutions' Friday Factoids & Weekend Reflections
Greetings!
Natural disasters and political unrest are two uncertainties that we have no control over. Similarly,
uncertainties in the work environment are all too familiar. Internal
policy changes, external legal revisions, corporate tax requirements,
human resource changes, and IT software upgrades. What do we do, how do we cope, and when will they stop?
My answer is, we embrace the reality that life will always bring challenges our way. There is a purpose for our experiences, we just have to find it. Tragedies and uncertainties will not stop, but how we handle them is the measuring stick by which we determine our success in handling any situation. Start today by making the best of your most challenging situations by doing something unexpectedly generous and kind for another person. Remember the old adage, "It is more blessed to give than to receive."
Enjoy Your Weekend Everyone!
Respectfully,
TJ Haygood, Founder & CEO

Friday Factoid #1 for Employers:
Our Employees' Training Budget is Zero, What Can We Do to Train Our People?
Below is a list of steps that I recommend in situations where resources for training are limited:
1. Identify what type of training is required and determine which individuals within your company have the ability to sufficiently teach, train, or facilitate the necessary training.
2. Make a list of outside training companies, who are willing to provide you with either free training or reduced payment terms that will be mutually beneficial. Sometimes bartering arrangements can be a solution.
3. Pick up some training material from your local library or community book store and develop your own in-house training program.
Call us for a free consultation to determine which plan of action is best for you.

Friday Factoid #2 for Employees: Believe in Yourself Even if No One Else Does
Who
would have thought that an eight-year old dyslexic boy back in 1958 would
amount to much today? In fact, this under-performing student later said,
"I was soon being beaten once or twice a week for doing poor class work or
confusing the date of the Battle of Hastings." Yet Richard Branson,
founder of Virgin Enterprises did not allow his learning disability to keep him
from becoming one of the most successful people in our modern day times,
according to Jim Romeo's book "Business's Most Wanted."
Most
of us have heard of Virgin Records and Virgin Airlines, two of Mr. Branson's
conglomerate of companies. Although most of us may not have ever heard of
him, we know he is successful because of his products and services. What
is your story? How are you defining your life?
Always
remember your circumstances do not define you. Many great success stories
began with a challenge, a defeat, a turn of events, and ultimately an opportunity
for someone to see things differently and chart a new path. Only your
mind and time can limit your ability to overcome life's challenges.

Weekend Reflection #1:
How Do You Handle Defeat?
The San Antonio Spurs lost to the Utah Jazz this past Wednesday night. Additionally, Tim Duncan missed setting a new milestone by one point when he fouled out during the fourth quarter with 19,999 points in his career. While disappointing, it is fascinating to see how Tim Duncan and the other players continue to rise above their personal defeats and team losses.
This gave me a reason to pause and think about how we handle defeat; that is, a lost account, a drop in sales, or an unrelenting recession. Yes, we can eliminate or let go of our subordinates. We could criticize our co-workers, or complain about poor management. However, I challenge you to reflect inward and ask yourself, how do you rise above your own temptation to blame others, accept defeat, or simply just quit? We can all learn something from our local sports heroes about overcoming disappointing moments in our professional lives. It begins with a positive state of mind. In addition, it takes concentrated support from managers, staff members, and other co-workers who contribute their talents for the benefit of the entire team.
You can be a winner and leader by simply being the best professional that you can be. Even if your coach or manager makes a bad decision or a poor judgment call, you as an individual team member must always do your best. It is through adversity that your team will come to appreciate the value you add to the team.
Enjoy your weekend and celebrate your new unrelenting attitude to achieve amazing success.

Weekend Reflections #2: How to Avoid Giving a Valentine Gift?
You
can get out of buying a Valentine's Day gift if there is no one who has a
special place in your heart. However, before you make that conclusion, scroll through your
database, Blackberry, Palm pre, Iphone, MP3 player, LinkedIn profile, Facebook
page, and customer/vendor directory. Do you see one loyal and supportive person who has contributed to your overall success?
Some employees become anxious or depressed during the holidays because of a lost love
or failed relationship. If that happens to be you, then try not to think
about those relationships. Instead, think about the people who are
often overlooked. Think of those who help you daily such as the
janitor, the security guards, and the support staff. Give them a gift and watch their eyes
light up.
For those of you who want to purchase a gift but financial resources are scarce, tap into your creative ingenuity and make one this year. Try
preparing some decadent chocolate covered frozen strawberries or making a
Valentine card for a friend. You can even make cupcakes, brownies
or bake a heart-shaped chocolate cake with white vanilla frosting and red hot
candy sprinkled on top for that special someone. There are many ways to
give from the heart without buying a gift. For most recipients, it is the
thought that counts. Whatever
you do this year, enjoy the holiday like you have never enjoyed it
before.
