Small LogoWelcome to Confidential Search Solutions' Friday Factoids & Weekend Reflections

Greetings!

Happy Friday!  It is exciting to complete another week and anticipate Thanksgiving in a few days.  If you plan to cook for the holidays, reduce your stress from the long lines and crowded parking lots by purchasing your required items this weekend.

When expressing your holiday cheer and carefully planned Thanksgiving menu remember the holidays are not always pleasant for everyone to experience.  Therefore remember to be a little extra sensitive and understanding with fellow co-workers who may be alone. Consider inviting them over for a holiday meal.

If cooking and watching football isn't your idea of fun, then this is a great time to do something different.  You can take a ride in the country, go to the lake, go to the movies, read a good book, play board games, complete your favorite puzzle, or volunteer at the local homeless shelter or Food Bank.  Finally take plenty of pictures and have fun!  Happy Thanksgiving!

Respectfully,

Friday Factoid #1 for Employers: Leadership Demonstrated by Service

A
ccording to our 6th President, John Quincy Adams, "If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader." It appears from his words, President Adams was thinking of a local grocery store bagger in San Antonio who recently helped carry my groceries to the car a few weeks ago.  Because of that bagger's example of service and humility, I am personally inspired to serve more, do more, and become more.

The bagger who so graciously helped me that day at Green Fields Market (a new health food grocery store in Stone Oak) was none other than one of our community's most respected and admired leaders.  He is one of the grocery store's co- owners, a former Texas State Senator, a former Mayor of the great city of San Antonio, and currently County Judge for Bexar County.  My bagger was the Honorable Judge Nelson Wolff.

He did not help me because he needed to impress anyone.  I was simply another customer he was truly happy to serve.  What he demonstrated at that moment was who he was and is from the inside out.  He is a man of great character, wisdom, humility, and service.  He is a man who thinks about how to help others, knowing that the seeds of kindness he is planting today will grow into fields of blessings tomorrow.

Who are you from the inside out as a manager or employer?  Do you prefer to serve others or do you prefer to be served by others. True leadership is in serving as demonstrated by honorable Judge Nelson Wolff, a man of honor.

Friday Factoid #2 for Employees: A Great Attitude & Strong Work Ethic are Critical to Your Success in the Workplace

MelissaConfidential Search Solutions would like to highlight two of four exceptional employees who support us every day in our corporate office at Legacy Office Centers.  Meet Michela Santiago and Kimberly Giang.  They exemplify professionalism at its best.  They have a wonderful attitude.  They are positive, upbeat, always willing to help, and eager to correct mistakes.  They have a strong work ethic.  They are dedicated, punctual, and conscientious about giving their best.  We appreciate them in addition to Marilyn Hilderbrandt and Becky King, Office Manager.

While employers hire employees to do specific jobs, they really want employees who will go beyond the minimum job requirements.  Why? Because it adds value to their customers and it improves their overall productivity and profitability rates.

If you would like to become a true success in the workplace, then you must complete the first three action steps as listed below and make a change where required:
  • Take a Self-Evaluation of your attitude and professional work ethic for a minimum of two weeks, noting your strengths and weaknesses
  • Obtain feedback from your current or most recent manager for your last three to six months performance
  • Ask two to three co-workers to give you constructive feedback on their perception of your attitude and ethic over the last three to six months.
When you receive your requested feedback from others, do not offer excuses for your less than desired identified behavior.  Thank them for the information and begin your personal process to improve your reputation in the workplace.  If you need additional assistance in making a change, you may want to consider attending one of our Empowerment Training Classes or using our Executive & Professional Career Coaching Service.

Weekend Reflection #1: The Next Generation
Cheese
He admitted it!  Darryl Baker, one of our Senior Business Partners has admitted he is in the next generation.  See his confession listed below:

" I am fortunate enough to have lived to see my next generation.  Yes, I have entered GRANDPARENTDOM.  It still blows my mind, for it was not that long ago when I used to cringe at becoming one, due to it reflecting my age.  However, I also remember folks saying things like: "Being a grandparent is so different from being a parent.  You can spoil them and return them back to their parents "- LOL.  Well, I am now there.  I ENJOY being called Grandpa.  They are a joy to be around and watching them grow is just plain exciting."

Similarly in the world of business, the next generation of technology can be equally exciting.  We can embrace new technologies as Darryl has embraced being a grandfather, with excitement, amazement, and a passion to spend time learning more about our new tools.  We can even coo and awe at how quickly technology is advancing and how the next generation is adapting faster than we did when we were at their developmental stages in life.

Just over 50 years ago, party lines (shared telephone lines), black and white televisions, reel to reel tapes (huge tapes prior to 8-Tracks and cassettes), and type writers were the state of the art technology.  Then a few years later, we advanced to computers with Cable, DSL, and Wifi internet access.  Now the latest is 4G technology, most commonly known as WiMax and LTE (Long Term Evolution), which are successors to our current cellular technology.

According to John Traveler's E-zine article on "Generational Differences in the Workplace - Fact or Fiction," there are four generations in the workplace for the first time in history (Matures/Silents (Born in or before 1945), Boomers (Born between 1946-1963), X-ers (Born between 1964-1982), and Millennials (Born between 1982-2000)) with no such description of an average worker any more because we are all very diverse.  Are you ready to embrace the next generation?

Weekend Reflections #2:  Things to Be Thankful for during Thanksgiving

Employees, as you prepare for the Thanksgiving Holiday next week, remember to give your employer a full day's work for a full day's pay  before and after the holiday.  It is the best way to show your appreciation and thanksgiving for the job you currently have and for the ability to spend time with your loved ones.

Employers, as you prepare for the Thanksgiving Holiday, remember to take some time off to relax.  Let go of the deadlines and pending reports for one day and enjoy spending some quality time with your loved ones.  Also remember to say thank you to the men and women who work for you.  It is a great way to reduce your turnover ratio and increase your productivity.

To all, remember to say thank you to the men and women in uniform.  A kind word goes a long ways.  Enjoy your holiday everyone!
