Friday Factoid #1 for Employers: Are You Stressed Out?
The unemployment rate is officially 10.2% and we are being told that it is projected to go higher before it gets better. Additionally, more people will lose their jobs between now and the end of the year. How do these situations affect you? Will it increase your work load? Will you miss tight deadlines because you are spread too thin? Are you noticing more health concerns as a result of the long hours? Do you have to cancel your vacation or miss your wedding anniversary because you are on the road and cannot get home? According to a Minnesota psychologist, Dr. Donald Tubesing, our bodies actually respond to stress by manifesting various signals such as headaches, tightness in neck, changes in appetite, trouble sleeping, anger, hostility, indigestion, heart palpitations, and a host of other related symptoms. If you are experiencing these types of stress related symptoms, it is time for you to seek immediate medical assistance. Do not take stress lightly. It can lead to very serious complications and situations. Learn to control it before it controls you. Eat well balanced meals, get plenty of sleep, exercise regularly, and take quality vitamin and mineral supplements. In Addition, you may call us if you need to add an interim executive or contract employee to get you through the end of the year. Remember, we look out for you.

Friday Factoid #2 for Employees: Who is in the Driver's Seat?
In this time of economic strife throughout our nation, have you ever wondered whether or not you are in control of your financial destiny? Although it is hard to believe that during this difficult period when employees are being served notices on a weekly basis that the control of your financial future is truly within your grasp. No matter if you are employed or not, YOU are in the driver's seat.
Those of you who are currently employed should consider the following steps to increase the potential of keeping your job:
- Make sure that you perform duties beyond your job description. This is not the time to complain.
- Ask your boss for opportunities to assist with some of their activities. Know that work related stress is present at all levels - no one is immune from being placed on the roster of the unemployed.
- Take available training and career development classes which will keep your professional "toolkit" up-to-date. Expect the best but prepare for the worst.
Now, for those of you who are soon to be unemployed, consider the following:
- Volunteer in a non-profit agency while performing your job search efforts. This will keep your skill set intact and keep YOU in a positive frame of mind.
- Network, Network, Network and Network.
- Consider starting your own business or pick up a hobby.
Whatever your employment status, saving money for a rainy day and obtaining continuous work related training is fundamental to your financial success. Therefore, use this time wisely and steer yourself into the success that you desire. Remember, you are always in the driver's seat.

Weekend Reflection #1: What is Your Cheese?
Over the years I have had the opportunity to live in various states within this great country of ours and abroad. The constant denominator was facing challenges at each location like learning to convert dollars to the host country's currency or embracing the notion of driving on the opposite side of the street. Through it all flexibility and open mindedness is the key. During these uncertain times, many of us have had to face challenges such as rethinking our spending habits and distinguishing between "needs & wants." I know personally, it has truly made me value all that I have and appreciate those people in my life that I love and admire. My intent for writing this article was to stimulate your thoughts on this subject and to remind you that no matter what you are facing, there is ALWAYS something to be thankful for. Even those of us who are guys must take the time to tell our family & friends that we love them and appreciate them like I have decided to do. Furthermore, I am also going to help those in need more often. I know that my "cheese" is family, friends, and my ability to assist others. What Is Your Cheese?

Weekend Reflections #2: "Take Me Home Country Road... "
"Take me home country road to a place I belong, West Virginia, mountain mama, take me home, country road." Those lyrics as recorded by John Denver in January 1971 came to my mind when I came across the picture to your left. It reminded me of the times when my family and I would travel across the states from Michigan to my father's home town in Luray, TN to visit his parents. Going to the country was always a wonderful feeling for my brothers and me during the holiday seasons. The home cooked meals, familiar sounds and scents in the air, and the thick Tennessee red clay were all the things we anticipated as young children. As some of you prepare and anxiously await the upcoming holidays, there are many others who will not be able to go home. Why? Because their homes have been destroyed, their loved ones have passed and gone, or they are on a military assignment far from home and cannot return. Therefore, do something different this holiday season and invite someone new to your home (a soldier, a neighbor, a widow, a stranger, or a co-worker) for a home cooked meal. Change the course of your thinking from "going home to visit loved ones" to "making a home and giving others the best of you." Enjoy your weekend from all of us at CSS.
