Welcome to Confidential Search Solutions' Friday Factoids & Weekend Reflections
Greetings!
It is with deepest thoughts and prayers that we remember the families and loved ones impacted by the unthinkable acts of injustice that occurred at Ft. Hood Army Post on Thursday.
When tragedy strikes and unprepared loss happens, the ripple affects can be overwhelming. Just the conversations alone around the water cooler and coffee machines creates countless unproductive hours we can never regain which produces other unrelated losses because of our human emotions.
This is a time for the strong to step up and encourage the weak to come together to celebrate the precious life we still have and to comfort those who have been directly and indirectly impacted by this tragedy. It is time to empathize, sympathize, and to morn for some, but it is also the time for most others to move forward because we have to in life. Turn off the news, embrace your loved ones, enjoy your time together, say a prayer and have a thankful and blessed weekend.
Respectfully,

Friday Factoid #1 for Employers: Do you Think Performance Management Tools are Beneficial to the Company or Time Wasters?
Regardless of your answer as a manager, your response determines the real answer to the company. According to Robert Bacal in his book, Performance Management, "If you are going to invest the time and effort to do performance management properly, you'll need to know how it's going to pay off. Otherwise you won't be motivated." As a manager, you have to understand and believe in the reasons for the measurement tools in order for your employees to see the value. Once they get it, then the overall results can realistically benefit the organization and save you time and future headaches. If you are struggling in this area, do not continue to do what you have always done. Reach out to a peer manager or invest in a career coach, one of the services we too provide. It can help you see through different lenses the value of using a collaborative approach with your staff that personally benefits you and your employees because they will know what their expectations are and where to go or who to go to for help if needed.

Friday Factoid #2 for Employees: Do You Think Talent and Skills are Enough to Succeed in Business?
Before you answer the question, take a moment to ponder how your favorite athlete in any field would respond. If you have never talked to one or read any of their life stories, then let me share some highlights with you from a book by Doubleday called, The Perfect Team. Many pro players would admit that they were born with special talents, gifts, and/or passions that gave them an extra measure of success. However, they would also share with you that it took painful moments of hard work, long practices, tough coaches, other competitive and sometimes more talented players, along with pure tenacity and adrenaline that helped them to move from the status quo to the actual pros. Comparatively speaking big business is like the pros. You get in the door because of your experience, talents, abilities, education, etc. However, it takes so much more to succeed. It takes a positive mental attitude. It takes learning lessons from tough managers. It takes working long hours. It takes dealing with challenging co-workers who can sometime get you promoted because of the way you motivated and or called to action others, as observed by your superiors. Do not run from adversity in the workplace but embrace it with the understanding that it can make you stronger. It can also open up greater levels of success if you rise to the occasion and respond like a pro. We wish you the best!

Weekend Reflections #2: Reading, Writing, & Arithmetic a Formula for Success

Do you remember when you were younger and you heard your teachers, parents, or grandparents say that if you did well in your reading, writing, and arithmetic then you would be successful in life? I want to reflect on those concepts with you for a moment as we end our week.
Reading is the quintessential foundation of all knowledge. There are books and articles on every subject you can ever imagine plus more. Reading can be an adventuresome road to learning different ways to solve a problems, to accomplish a task, to discover new places to travel on vacation, to teach your children lessons in life, or to love your spouse. Reading in school at times felt like a chore but the lessons learned did so much more. If you have not read a book in a while just for you, I would suggest picking up one or two good self-help books, inspirational books, or biography books to read just for fun. Your world will be open to more than just the routines of everyday life and help you escape or incubate for a moment or two.
Writing to a friend, a loved one, an active duty military member, can also be a blessing to you and another person's life when you share more of you with others. Yes, even writing in a journal can cause you to reflect on many things in your recent or distant past that can help you make some better decisions in your current or future situations. Writing lessons for others to help them translate difficult concepts, languages, or training material can help others embrace more of what life has to give. Remember also that writing poems or letters to yourself about life can help you reflect on the blessings that are free to enjoy like reading and writing.
Arithmetic is also important in our everyday lives, even with modern day computers, calculators, and cash registers. As they say in the world of information technologies, garbage in is garbage out. I am sure you can relate to at least one time in line at your favorite store when a cashier over or under charged you for something you know was a different amount. The ability to add, subtract and even do algebra, geometry, and trigonometry for some has been very beneficial to your world as an adult.
Remember to take the time to enjoy these treasures as an adult. When money is tight, you can always enjoy a good book, write a nice letter to a loved one, or redefining your budget to make ends meet. Help us to help others get the message out to our youth to stay in school and learn the wonderful lessons of life in reading, writing, and arithmetic. It can take them further than those without it. Have a great weekend everyone!
