Welcome to Confidential Search Solutions' Friday Factoids & Weekend Reflections
Greetings!
Can you believe we have already completed the first month in the last quarter of 2009? Where has the time gone? Time is so precious. We only have 24 hours in a day to do all of the things we need and want to do with our precious moments. We hope you take the time to reflect with us in this week's edition of "Friday Factoids & Weekend Reflections," the beautiful gift of time. Enjoy yours today and have a wonderful and blessed weekend!

Friday Factoid #1 for Employers: Using the Process of "Incubation" for Problem Resolution
As a leader in your organization, it is a compliment to you and your success when you are entrusted to handle the issues and problems of your subordinates and peers. What do you do when you face challenging problems or difficult situations that you do not have the experience to answer, your list of mentors are not available, and Google does not present you with plausible answers?
Pray! Yes, that is one answer. However, this is a time you might want to also consider the process of Incubation. According to Eugene Raudsepp, former President of Princeton Creative Research, "Incubation is a process in which you cease activity on one process of thought and do something else for a while so that the solution to the first problem has time to take shape and reach maturity."
Taking a break or walking away from a major problem or situation for a few minutes or a few days is the last thing many leaders would think to do. However, according to Raudsepp, "conscientiously we rely on the left side of our brain to solve problems...but subconsciously we work on problems with the right side. This side provides creativity and the ability to see the cohesive whole." So take some time this week to give yourself a break. Enjoy some music, take a few days off, go fishing one afternoon, ride a bike trail, watch a Disney movie, climb a mountain, read a good book, or just go for a walk. Just take a moment and some precious time to incubate.

Friday Factoid #2 for Employees: Telephone Etiquette Can Impact Your Job
Have you ever made a call to an auto dealership, a department store, or a restaurant and before you could discuss the reason for your call, you actually decided that you no longer wanted to do business with the organization because of the rudeness, lack of professionalism, and/or lack of knowledge shown by the company's representative? If so, then you are not alone. Many customers make decisions everyday to take their business elsewhere because of the lack of professionalism, courtesy, or information provided by employees within various departments from a variety of organizations. When a customer is lost, revenue is lost. When enough revenue is lost, layoffs occur. When more layoffs occur, more families can't pay their bills. When more bills are unpaid, companies lose more revenue. When more revenue is lost, more jobs are cut. Do you see the relationship between one's telephone etiquette and the possible impact on their job? It isn't a conscience thought but it is a reality in the workplace.
Regardless of what department you work in (engineering, accounting, facilities management, etc.) do your absolute best to represent your company in the most positive and professional way possible on the phone and in person. It could literally save your job.

Weekend Reflections #1: Are You Willing to Share Your Time with Us?
Are you willing to share your time with us in the community to show your support for a worthy cause? As a San Antonio Spurs season ticket holder, one of the many things I enjoy about my team is their willingness to give back to our community with their time and their financial resources.
The ability to share our resources like time and money is a wonderful blessing. We understand not everyone has the ability to give money, but most of us have the ability to donate our time. We invite you to share your time with us next weekend during the American Heart Association's Annual Heart Walk in San Antonio.
Come walk with us next Saturday, November 7, 2009 at Brooks City Base and help us raise $1000 for the American Heart Associations' Annual Heart Walk in San Antonio. This event draws thousands of walkers every year who have fun walking with their friends, family, and co-workers to support this special event.
As a survivor of heart disease, I am personally thankful for countless prayers, family support, and for the information and research provided by the American Heart Association. Come walk with me, come walk with us. Click here! Sign up today!

Weekend Reflections 2: Is the Recession Over?

According to the Washington Post this week, the recession is over. The GDP was over 3% for third quarter, which is the strongest quarter in two years.
Some people cannot believe we are actually having this discussion. There are approximately 7,000 people a day that are exhausting their unemployment benefits and the unemployment rate is forecasted to hit 10% before year end. For those reasons it is quite difficult for some to imagine the recession is actually over.
Regardless of what side of the debate people are on when they discuss the glass is "half filled or half empty," the truth of the matter is, there is still water in the glass. Likewise, there are things that are equally true about the recession debate and that is, there are still some improvements that are occurring in our economy and for those reasons we should be thankful.
Yes, there is still uncertainty about unemployment and interest rates in addition to much unrest about local crime and war abroad. However, in most of those situations we have very little ability to improve their outcome as individuals. However, we do have the ability to greatly influence the attitudes in our homes, the quality in our workplace, and the kindness shown in our communities for one another.
Join us in making a commitment to become a part of the solution to improve our personal and professional surroundings for the better. Together we can make a difference by conserving more energy in our homes, improving our professional skills, using our time more wisely in general, offering to help a neighbor in need, taking a meal to a needy family or homeless shelter, and/or donating our quality unworn clothes to a non-profit organization. Adopt our model as we do our best to look out for you. Help us to look out for someone too.
