Small LogoWelcome to Confidential Search Solutions' Friday Factoids & Weekend Reflections

Greetings!

We hope you had a productive week.  As you read this edition of "Friday Factoids & Weekend Reflections," remember to take a moment to be thankful for the good things you've experienced recently (a smiling face, a kind word, a helping hand, or a meal to eat.) Take a moment to say a silent prayer for the men and women who give their lives every day to serve our country including: military members, fire fighters, law enforcement officers, and our health care professionals.  Have a wonderful and blessed weekend!

Respectfully,

Friday Factoid #1: Can Employers Pay Full-time College and High School Students Under the Age of 20 Years Old Less than Minimum Wage?

Yes!  According to the Department of Labor, the Federal minimum wage is $7.25.  However, there are exceptions to the rule and full-time students under the age of 20 is one of them.  For the first 90 consecutive days of employment or prior to their 21st birthday (whichever comes first,) an employer can pay $4.25 or more per hour if all other conditions are met.  For more information on youth minimum wage click here.

Now that the State's unemployment rate has jumped to 8.2%, some employers feel increased pressure to reduce their overall labor costs.  However, some are still willing to pay premium wages for exceptional employees.  By doing so, companies realize the benefits of their investment through improved quality, decreased production costs, stronger work ethics, adaptable skills to manage unpredictable changes, and a positive attitude when faced with workforce challenges.  Give us a call if you need assistance finding exceptional talent.

Friday Factoid #2: The Biggest Losers & The Largest Gains

According to the recent Associated Press announcement on October 16, the industries reporting the largest job losses were in the Leisure & Hospitality career fields (16,900 jobs) as well as Professional and Business Services (16,500.) Trade, Transportation, and Utilities also sustained losses totaling 13,000 positions.

Conversely, Education and Health Services reported the largest growth with an increase of 2,700 positions. Mining and Logging fields posted gains of 2,100 jobs this year.

According to Bloomberg, the time it takes to land the next job has exceeded the unemployment benefit period for the first time in our Nation's history.  If you are currently seeking employment, do not get discouraged.  Keep looking, stay positive, and attend an empowerment class to gain additional marketing skills.  New jobs are listed every day.  Keep the faith.
