Greetings!
On June 7, an arbitrator's decision following two years of complicated negotiations between AUPE and SAIT was awarded.
On June 20, our AUPE Negotiator, Kevin Davediuk, will be at SAIT to give us a full breakdown of the deal. Please join us for this very informative session.
Wednesday, June 20, 2012
NR112, Main Floor, Senator Burns Building
4:30-5:15 Presentation (Negotiator, Kevin Davediuk)
5:15-6:00 Question/Answer
Future negotiations with SAIT start in just over a year and our involvement in the bargaining process at that time will be vital to the final outcome. This round of negotiations lasted two years, with the arbitrator deciding on contract language similar to AUPE's initial proposals in 2010.
SAIT spent two years and an estimated hundreds of thousands of dollars - time and money that could have been spent improving working conditions and student services - to reach a deal that should have been agreed to using free and open negotiations when bargaining began. Staff and students deserve better than that.
The labour relations' environment with SAIT has eroded as a result of their disrespect for us at the bargaining table and their delay tactics.
SAIT's executive has created a damaging double standard with lavish executive compensation with increases and performance bonuses while staff are asked to take rollbacks.
Both AUPE and SAFA members have had their labour relations harmed by the approach SAIT's executive has taken with the staff who make the institution run.
We must approach the next round of bargaining, which will be with a new SAIT senior executive, strong and united in order to avoid the stalling we saw from the employer this round.
On our website you will find a copy of this letter along with a copy of the arbitrators award and a copy of SAIT's bargaining submissions. (Please note this document is over 16 MB+.)
While we are pleased with the arbitrator's decision, future engagement and involvement from you, the Local 039 members, during bargaining will help all of us get the fair deal we deserve in a more open and timely manner.
In solidarity,
Rosemary Read Local 039 chair chair@aupelocal39.com
