Greetings!

The seasons they are a changin' here at CBU.  September is upon us, and as we take a glance at the CBU calendar, we have a lot in store for the rest of the year.

Most notably, just around the corner is our 9th Annual Fall Retreat this September 23rd - 27th.  We're so excited about it that we decided to dedicate this month's entire e-news to covering all of the details.  Invites have been mailed, and we're looking forward to receiving your R.S.V.P.

It's been a fantastic summer so let's keep up the momentum as we roll into fall.  Be well and just a reminder that September is Life Insurance Awareness Month!

How to Be a Rainmaker

The theme of this year's Fall Retreat is "How to Be a Rainmaker".  The term rainmaker originates from Native American tribal magicians and came into the English language around 1775. Today, it is a term used to describe a professional who is seemingly magical in his field and specifically, one who generates a great deal of business. A rainmaker brings new profits to a company, just as a literal rainmaker might bring rain to the crops. In the purest sense, a rainmaker is a difference maker.

All of us are looking for ways to expand our business, which is why the theme "How to Be a Rainmaker" seemed appropriate for this year's retreat. Rainmakers are known to find ways to connect with prospects and clients in non-traditional or hidden markets.

Throughout the retreat, we'll be presented with new ideas and opportunities on ways to consistently create new business. Our goal by the end of the retreat is for you to walk away with fresh ideas and an understanding of the action steps necessary to take to make it rain.
Really Simple Sales Success
Fall Retreat Keynote Speaker - Mel Schlesinger

Mel Schlesinger This year, Washington National is graciously sponsoring the address from our keynote speaker -  Mel Schlesinger.  Mel has more than 35 years of commission-only sales experience. In 1982 while recovering from a broken leg that acquired during Special Forces training he began to sell life insurance in the evenings at the kitchen table. He soon transitioned to the sale of employee benefits and in 1991 switched his focus to the sale of voluntary products.

With a strong desire to provide the highest level of service to clients he achieved the Registered Health Underwriter and the Registered Employee Benefit Consultant designations offered through the American College of Bryn Marr PA. Today Mel is still engaged in the sale of voluntary products because he believes that they make a difference in the lives of working Americans.

Mel is the author of two books: Get More Group Clients and A Lifetime of Leads and is working on a third book, Really Simple Sales Success. He is a regular contributor to Employee Benefit Advisor and a sought after speaker on the topic of delivering value as a benefit professional as well as on sales success.

Mel was the 2011 - 2012 president of the National Association of Health Underwriters.

A big thanks to Washington National for sponsoring our keynote speaker.

Whitewater Rafting on Maine's Kennebec River

Whitewater Rafting The Kennebec is the most popular river in New England. It offers consistent Class II, III & IV white water rafting in the spectacular Maine wilderness. From its source at Maine's Moosehead Lake near the Canadian border, this famous river corridor carves through a deep, rock-walled gorge in the exciting Upper Kennebec, and broadens out into the easygoing Lower Kennebec.
