Greetings!
Bringing home the gold is top-of-mind for every Olympic-watching American this month. Who will it be? Lochte? Maroney? Rhode? To me, witnessing the Olympic events unfold is nothing short of amazing.
Following the stories of these elite athletes makes me think of you and all the work you do to 'make it happen every day'. As agents, there are countless hours of preparation, training, and fine-tuning that go into meeting with each client. With a little bit of luck, and a whole lot of skill, your hard work will always pay off in the end. I witness it every day, and it's just as exciting as watching the Olympic games on television.
In this edition, we announce Advisor Today's cover story, introduce a companion plan to Medicare Supplement, invite you to get social with us, and look at the concept of prospecting.
Be well and set your sights on the gold! |
NAIFA's Advisor Today Interviews Ray ValleeAn Article Covering Worksite Benefits
"No one knows what health-care reform will eventually look like, but these top producers know this: it takes good presentation skills, education, and lots of hand-holding to win at Worksite", comments Tina Orem of Advisor Today - the insurance and financial industry's most recognized publication. Tina's article "Building Your Worksite Business", in which she interviews our very own Ray Vallee, is the cover story of the July/August issue of NAIFA's Advisor Today.
Here's an excerpt from the story:
"As you try to make a sale, don't create trouble by bringing too many carriers into the mix", warns Ray Vallee, president of Combined Benefits United in Hallowell, Maine. "One carrier may have the best critical illness, another carrier may have the best disability, the next carrier may have the best accident, the next carrier may have the best long-term disability, but what generates if you're trying to find the absolute best fit for each product is an accounting nightmare for the HR person. If she has to deduct premiums from employees' checks for two, three, four, or five different vendors, you know what that means? More work. And if it entails more work, they don't want anything to do with it. So, find a carrier that's going to support you - this is, someone that is competitive in all areas."
Combined Benefits United is honored to have been interviewed by such a distinguished publication. Please continue reading the entire article by clicking here.

Your Personal Gold RushProspecting Your Way to the Top
During the mid-twentieth century, the term "prospecting" was just another part of the gold rush. It referred to the pursuit of valuable mineral deposits that just about everyone wanted. We think of prospecting to mean getting out there and creating relationships to stimulate business. Here are a few tips on how to start your own personal gold rush:
- Six-figure sales people are always keeping up with the pace. They spend more time on the phone, and they never forget to ask for referrals.
- Understand that prospecting is a necessity - clients won't simply come to you.
- Strike while the iron is hot. Prospects are perishable and need to be contacted quickly. Each day you let slip by without making initial contact dramatically reduces the probability of you making the sale.
- Don't take rejection personally. Selling is a numbers game, and statistically you're bound to get turned down every now and then. Learn from your experiences and use them as a valuable feedback mechanism.
- Be assertive. Prospecting is an individual task, and it's up to you to generate your own success.
