Superintendent's Message

We have had a great start to the 2012-2013 school year. As shown by the pictures below, the first day of school is always an exciting time for students and their families.

Several new certified staff members have been employed by Itasca School District for the current school year. At Benson Primary School, new teachers include the following:  Ms. Calkins (K-Prep), Mrs. DiDonna (Special Education Early Childhood), Miss Petrucci (1st Grade), and Mrs. Metzel (Inclusion Facilitator).   Serving both Benson Primary School and Franzen Intermediate School, Miss Griswold is employed as the new Social Worker. Franzen Intermediate School has the following new staff members: Miss Maine (3rd Grade) and Mr. Wardzala (5th Grade). At Peacock Middle School, the new staff members are as follows: Mrs. Williams (6th Grade Science) and Miss Anklam (8th Grade Spanish).

A newly employed building principal, Mr. Brian Faulkner, serves as the leader for Peacock Middle School.  After serving six years as an assistant principal of middle school, Mr. Faulkner was well prepared for his newly attained position. As shown below, he greets students on the first day of school.

We returned from summer break to the completion of roof renovations at two of our three schools. At Franzen Intermediate School, the entire roof was replaced. Renovations at Peacock Middle School involved a portion of the school's roof being replaced. Future renovations will include replacing the remaining sections of the roof at Peacock Middle School during the summer of 2013.

Itasca School District's schools continue to attain "Adequate Yearly Progress" (AYP). This designation signifies that our students met or exceeded the Illinois Learning Standards as measured within the Illinois Standards Acheivement Test (ISAT). We are all proud of our students in attaining this outstanding accomplishment. As parents and staff members worked collaboratively together, between 92% and 96% of the students met or exceeded in the areas of reading and mathematics.

We look forward to family members joining us throughout the year as students provide presentations displaying their skills and expertise.

Safety Comes First

Thanks to the Itasca Police Department for providing officers to assist with traffic control during the opening day of school for 2012-2013. Shown below is Officer Duda providing assistance prior to the beginning of the school day at Benson Primary School. THANK YOU OFFICER DUDA!

Preparation for Ryder Cup Traffic

The 39th Ryder Cup is being held at Medinah Country Club during the week of September 24th - 28th, 2012.  With this being a very popular event, we are anticipating increased traffic in the Itasca area during the week of the Ryder Cup.

The following information regarding road closures in the vicinity of the Ryder Cup has been shared with our district. Within a quote shown below, please see the information provided to us from officials associated with the Ryder Cup.

"In order to decrease traffic around Lake Park High School and Medinah Country Club, the Illinois State Police and DuPage County have recommended closing all thru traffic on Medinah Road between Lake Street and Irving Park Road, Acacia Lane between Medinah Road and Foster Avenue and Spring Court between Temple Drive and Lake Park High School.  Upon request, each address located along the closed roads will receive a limited number of vehicle parking hang tags allowing access to their residence. The road closures begin September 24th  with hang tag enforcement to access the closed roads starting on September 25th and continuing thru September 30th."

In Itasca School District, we are making every attempt to prepare for the heavy traffic as we transport our bussed students to and from school.
